The Mira Costa Mustangs Varsity football team beat Long Beach Wilson 41-20 to advance to the second round of playoffs!
They will rematch with South Hills High School at home this Friday night at
7 pm. Come cheer your Mustang Football team on to a victory!
CIF ticket prices: $5 students $10 adults.
Remember to bring $5 cash since your ASB card does not cover CIF playoff tickets. Coaches Club does not cover the CIF games either.

In the Semifinals of the Division 1 playoffs, in a match that was tied 3-3 after the first round, 6-6 after the second round, and 9-9 after the third round, Mira Costa defeated Westlake, the Marmonte League Champion, 9 to 9.  In singles, Audrey Vo (MC) won two sets 7-5 and 6-2; and Nicole Wuelfing (MC) won one set 6-2.. In doubles, Lindsay Giese/Peyton Douglas (MC) won two sets 7-5 and 6-1; Olga Nagy/Kacey Feng (MC) won two sets 6-1 and 6-0; and Haily Huynh/Sydney Vo (MC) won two sets 6-3 and 6-0.

Banner day at Bay League Finals for Costa Cross Country!
It was a banner day at the Bay League Finals last week with 4 of our 6 teams becoming 2018 Bay League Champions, and the other 2 teams capturing a stellar 2nd place team finish. 
 Varsity Girls took 1st place to become the 2018 Bay League Champions, led by individual champion Dalia Frias, Lucy Atkinson in 3rd, Brooke Inouye just a second behind in 4th (despite losing a shoe early in the race!), Pnina Tofler and Piper Newton closing well in 7th and 9th place.  Read More
Mira Costa Band & Colorguard succeed in competition!
The Band and Colorguard placed third out of six in their highly competitive bracket at the WBA Field Show at Warren High School in Downey on Oct. 27th. They couldn’t be more proud as they head into the MBOS Championships in Las Vegas on November 10th.
Costa Surf Team dominates competition in beginning of season!
MCHS Surf continues to dominate and is currently 2-0 in head to head competition. They had an excellent team effort vs South last Wednesday October 31, final score 97-50.

The Surf team continues to dominate because they have depth, and instead of just one strong surfer they have many and every single athlete is contributing to their success. Read More

Model UN highlights for November!
The Mira Costa Model United Nations students have had an active start to the season. Over the past few weeks, students have been working tirelessly to prepare for local conferences by collecting information, writing research papers, and preparing speeches. The first Advanced conference was at Edison High School on October 20th and 21st. Read More  
Choir Updates!
Vocal Ensemble News
On November 2, 2018 Vocal Ensemble participated in the Biola University High School Choral Festival which invites Chamber Choirs from across SoCal. The festival was adjudicated by Dr. Richard Sparks, Chair of Conducting and Ensembles at University of North Texas. The last to perform of the eight chamber choirs, Vocal Ensemble sang “And the Glory of the Lord” from  Messiah,  “Con Amores La Mi Madre” by Bob Chilcott and “Stars” by Norwegian Composer Erik Esenvalds, which uses tuned water glasses. Lauren Woomer, Class of 2017 is studying Music Therapy at The University of the Pacific and sings with the elite Chamber Singers.
Dakota Rose Aguilar Wood, Class of 2011 , studied at CalArts for her BFA in the Photography & Media program; making prints using experimental/alternative analog color processes; musing mainly on the melancholic ecologies of the Los Angeles coastal landscape
Elizabeth Bundy, Class of 2012, graduated in 2016 from Furman University with a B.S. in Chemistry, with a focus on polymer science and a B.A. in Political Science, with a focus on political theory. Read More
Costa Rugby Season Underway!
The Mira Costa Boys and Girls Rugby program have begun their 2018-2019 season. Practices started for both Boys and Girls. The boys are looking for some Freshman and Sopho­mores to help round out our JV squad. Our Girls side has solid numbers but we are always happy to welcome anyone that wants to give Rugby a try. Shout out to Costa Grad Ethan Alverson ’14, playing Rugby for University of Colorado Buffalos!
Congratulations to Ethan Alverson ‘14. Ethan is the starting #8 for the University of Colorado Buffalos.  Ethan is in his senior year and has played for Colorado since his freshman year. Alverson plays on Colora­do’s 15s and 7s teams. Ethan is majoring in biology and is considering be­coming a teacher after graduation and hopefully coaching rugby. Drama Update!
Now Playing – The Laramie Project!
The Laramie Project  opened last weekend in the MHCS Small Theatre to great reviews. Audiences were deeply moved by the tragic story of Matthew Shepard, the young gay man who was brutally killed in Laramie, Wyoming in 1998 and whose murder became one of the rallying points for gay rights legislation in this country.
Fall Orchestra Updates!
Halloween Movie Night
Last Friday, the Orchestra student leaders organized a Halloween Movie Night for the Orchestra students. Students brought snacks and came in PJ’s to watch A Nightmare before Christmas! Orchestra Boosters supplied fresh popped popcorn and waters. Students had a fun evening and are looking forward to doing this again in spring.
