June 2020
MC3 is closed Friday, July 3rd for the Independence Day holiday. MC3 consultation will not be available
on this day, and will resume on Monday, July 6th.
My dear friends and colleagues,

We have all watched with sadness as the events of the last weeks have unfolded across the country.  As a group of educated individuals in the healthcare profession we are too often aware of the disparities in healthcare access that exist for black and brown children and families as well as those impacted by poverty. As healthcare providers we are called to advocate for causes that begin to address systemic and institutional racism. Our training has taught us that ACEs (adverse childhood events) disproportionately impacts people of color, and heightens risk for mental health issues. May we embrace educational opportunities that will allow us to become better allies, better teachers and better people.

Warm wishes,
Dear MC3 Perinatal Friends,

What a few months we have all had! I hope that amid the COVID-19 pandemic and renewed spotlight on systemic racism that you are finding time to take care of yourself. I have been trying to start meetings with a brief mindfulness exercise and encourage all to find opportunities every day for even some brief mindfulness. Like many of you, I am thinking a lot these days about what I can do to impact systemic racism and ensure that I am working to improve health inequities. I, personally, and the whole team are working each day on educating ourselves about systemic racism, on how to address racism and, how to ensure we have a more diverse team moving forward. I feel that we can and must do better to improve perinatal outcomes for women of color. We all need to take steps towards this goal. I am positive that our joined efforts to address justice in women’s mental health will have a positive impact.

I hope that you are able to get outside for some summer fun and relaxation – socially distanced and with a mask, of course.

Be well,

 Black
