COVID-19 Guidelines
As we monitor the ever-changing COVID-19 situation, we are open at MCA-TV! We have had a few shows in the studio already and a lot more coming! We welcome producers to start scheduling again to film in the station and check out our new control room! Volunteers are welcome to set up a time to come check out the new control room as well! Please call or email to set up a time to come so we can ensure we do not have too many people in the studio at once.

All measures are being taken to practice social distancing between employees and volunteers in the studio. Specifically, it is recommended that you stay at least 6 feet away from others and avoid touching your eyes, nose, or mouth. There will be alcohol-based sanitizer available so everyone can wash their hands frequently. In addition, the public will be required to wear a mask before being granted admittance to the building and during their time at the studio (with the exception being the talent). Individuals who cannot wear a mask due to a medical condition may enter the premise and are not required to provide documentation. If you are sick, we ask that you stay home for the safety of everyone until you are better.

As always, you are welcome to reserve equipment from the studio to film as well. Just email us to reserve the equipment so we can ensure it is ready for you.

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation as we all work through this reopening process. Our highest priority is the health and well-being of everyone in the MCA-TV family and our community. We will continue to monitor the evolving situation and keep you updated as changes occur.
Upcoming Volunteer Opportunities

The Allegheny County Health Department and Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League (WPIAL) has decided to move forward with high school sports limiting the exposure with new guidelines.

The Allegheny County Health Department's limit on outdoor gatherings of 50 remains in place and applies to youth and K-12 sports-related activities. The purpose of the measure is intended to limit the spread of COVID-19 in our community. That is particularly true for groups of youth who can be asymptomatic while having the virus, not realizing that they are spreading it.

We will be filming Moon High School football home games and some Moon High School Varsity soccer (Boys and Girls) home games this year. There will be a total of 6 games.  If you are interested in volunteering for any or all of these games, contact Allison today for more information!
  • While on the sidelines volunteers and staff should have a face covering and keep 6' of distance between each other and stay home if sick.

Volunteer Spotlight
Pat Griffin

Q. Give us a brief description of yourself.

I have been retired for ten years. My original college degree was Photographic Science. I spent 43 yeas in the Technical Screen Printing industry and worked the last 24 years for Bayer Material Science where I did new product development and tech service for Bayer's plastic Polycarbonate films which where screen printed. In the 90's, I went to Robert Morris and got a degree in Computer Information Systems.

Q. How long have you been volunteering at MCA-TV?

started doing video ten years ago after I retired.

Q. What inspired you to take the production classes?

I had not done video since I graduated from College in 1969. Things had gone from large studio equipment and luggable mobile equipment to digital systems which were more portable. I had always wanted to get back into photography and video after I retired and this offered me an option to get involved.

Q. What do you enjoy most about volunteering at MCA-TV?

currently video the Senior Men's Club meeting which take place at the Sewickley Valley YMCA (or did til the COVID-19 virus suspended our weekly meetings). I use my own equipment to do the video and editing and upload the finished product to MCA-TV via an online account. This allows me considerable flexibility and I am able to work without leaving home.

Q. What shows do you volunteer on?

I produce the Senior Men's Club which takes place at the Sewickley Valley YMCA. (will resume in 2021. I also do video of wood-turning associated with Turners Anonymous. Turners Anonymous meetings have gone virtual since March. I have produced two virtual demos which I have shared with MCA-TV. We will also be doing virtual demos in Sept, Oct, and Nov. These shoots involve traveling to a members home shop and doing a video shoot while the member demonstrate his craft. I take this video and edit it and then we stream it during our regular monthly meeting.

Q. Do you have any shows you would like to produce in the future?

With the COVID-19 situation hanging on, it is difficult to do remote shoots and requires a lot of pre-production planning. As I state above, I am currently working on three future demo's for the months of Sept, Oct, and Nov. These videos are challenging in that I do not know what to expect until I see the members shop. The time to do the shoot can approach three hours and the final editing can result in a video of one to two hours. Once the Sewickley YMCA allows the Senior Men's Club to resume meetings, (probably in early 2021) I will continue the weekly videos there. These videos are also challenging since you never know what the presenters will bring with them.
