Housing & Climate Forum 10/30 & MCAT General Meeting 11/8
Hello MCATs and Friends;
We have two important events coming up. Please join us!
Monday, October 30th @ 7 PM on ZOOM
MCAT Housing & Climate Forum
Juggling both Oregon's housing and climate crises,
while improving outcomes for both.
We need to address both crises at the same time.
Our land-use laws and urban growth boundaries (UGBs) protect agricultural and forest land, and encourage new housing development in places already connected to public transportation, utilities and access to goods and services.
Last session legislation almost passed (HB 3414) that would have allowed building housing outside of our UGBs, which threatens the climate in a myriad of ways.
This forum will address these issues and cover topics like: barriers to new housing development within UGBs, walkability, and protecting urban tree canopies and waterways, with the goal of improving future legislative solutions.
MCAT (Mobilizing Climate Action Together) is a community of experienced volunteers, sponsored by OLCV, who steward significant greenhouse gas reduction policy into law in Oregon.
MCAT participates with the broad and inclusive climate and equity coalitions in Oregon and partners with OCN and others on coordinated action, particularly in regard to state legislation and policy. MCAT also actively organizes to elect and support legislators who will work for strong climate legislation.
