Spring 2021 MCC Classes
GEERing Up for a New Career
The North Carolina State Board of Community Colleges recently approved a $72,750 allocation from the Governor’s Emergency Education Relief (GEER) Scholarship Fund to Montgomery Community College. These funds were made available through the Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act and awarded to the North Carolina Office of the Governor by the U.S. Department of Education.

The College will use these funds for scholarships to eligible community college students pursuing high-demand workforce training programs within nine of MCC’s workforce pathways leading to a state or industry- recognized credential: Automotive, Construction, Criminal Justice, Emergency Medical Services, Healthcare, Industrial/Manufacturing, Information Technology, Transportation and Fire and Rescue Services.
The scholarships will help cover the cost of tuition, fees, books, supplies, credentialing tests, transportation, childcare and other components of the total cost of attendance. The funding for this program is in place through September 30, 2022.

MCC students involved in one of the workforce training programs listed above can come to the Department of Continuing Education to get an application, or email
ce-registration@montgomery.edu. Staff from MCC’s Department of Continuing Education are also visiting each of the qualifying classrooms on campus (where applicable) to discuss the scholarships and distribute applications.

Eligible students will be residents of North Carolina and enrolled in one of the Continuing Education pathways listed, leading to a state or industry-recognized credential. MCC has set a tentative application deadline of November 1, 2020 with per-student allocations of $250. The Spring 2021 application deadline is January 8, 2021 with students being eligible for $500.

Ms. Shavier Mason (masons@montgomery.edu) is the College’s scholarship liaison, she will update students on their approval status and scholarship amounts.
