MCC Unveils New Ambulance for EMT Students
|
|
Students enrolled in the Emergency Medical Technician Basic and related public safety courses will experience the state’s added driver training component in a new ambulance! Montgomery Community College invested around $30,000 for the vehicle with additional items inside the ambulance made possible through a generous donation by First Health of the Carolinas.
When people consider EMT training, they probably think of the clinical skills needed in emergency medical response scenarios, but driving the ambulance and getting safely to and from a scene is no easy task. Emergency vehicles such as ambulances are heavier and have higher centers of gravity than regular vehicles, making them very difficult to handle at high speeds. Since first responders are usually attempting to reach accident scenes quickly, mastering the art of ambulance driving is a critical training component.
In addition to driving the vehicle itself, the EMT Basic Course also covers numerous life-saving procedures that occur at an accident scene and inside an ambulance during transport. If you are interested in pursuing a rescue-related career, MCC has scholarship funds available to eligible community college students pursuing high-demand workforce training programs.
The scholarships will help cover the cost of tuition, fees, books, supplies, credentialing tests, transportation, childcare, and other components of the total cost of attendance. The funding for this program is in place through September 30, 2022. To learn more about rescue-related career programs, call 910-898-9672 or email masons@montgomery.edu.

Employers, remember February 1, 2021 deadline for Form W-2 & other wage statements!
|
|
The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) reminds employers that they must file Form W-2 and other wage statements by February 1, 2021, to avoid penalties and help the IRS prevent fraud.
A 2015 law made it a permanent requirement that employers file copies of their Form W-2, Wage, and Tax Statements, and Form W-3, Transmittal of Wage and Tax Statements, with the Social Security Administration by January 31. That is also the date the Forms W-2 is due to workers. This upcoming tax season, however, January 31 falls on a Sunday, pushing the due dates to the next business day, which is Monday, February 1.
Helping Fraud Detection
The normal January filing date for wage statements means that the IRS can more easily detect refund fraud by verifying income that individuals report on their tax returns. Employers can help support that process, and avoid penalties, by filing the forms on time and without errors. The IRS recommends e-file as the quickest, most accurate, and convenient way to file these forms.
Start Early
Good preparation now can help businesses avoid problems later. For instance, employers can get an early start verifying or updating employee information like names, addresses, and Social Security numbers or Individual Taxpayer Identification Numbers. They should also ensure their company's account information is current and active with the Social Security Administration before January. Businesses should also order paper Forms W-2 early if needed.
