Montgomery Community College's Workforce Development Center is where innovation, empowerment, and resources unite to assist the great people of Montgomery County and beyond. We specialize in offering short term training courses that not only allow a person to enter into a new career, but the specialized training to help them advance in their career. We aid current and future small business owners with the right tools and resources to not only achieve their goals, but exceed them.

We offer financial resources to help individuals thrive in school and on the job. We are on the receiving end when the local industry needs specialized training or a qualified employee. In addition to injecting the workforce with talented workers, we offer opportunities for personal growth through our unique programming that allows people to just have fun! Much like a financial advisor, we are with you every step of the way.

Small Business Center Welcomes New Director
The Small Business Center at Montgomery Community College is pleased to welcome Emily Tucker as its new director. Tucker replaces Savannah Heath who was recently hired by Montgomery County as its director of economic development.

Tucker joins the College with nearly 25 years of service and support to the business community of Richmond County. She has worked for the Richmond County Chamber of Commerce in the areas of membership, operations, customer service, communications, most recently as the organization’s President/CEO.

The Richmond County Chamber of Commerce boasts nearly 400 members, allowing Tucker to nurture strong business and community development skills. A resident of Mount Gilead, she was looking for an opportunity closer to home in Montgomery County to contribute and grow.
“We are so pleased to welcome Emily to the Montgomery County business community,” says Dr. Andrew Gardner, the dean of MCC’s Department of Continuing Education, of which the Small Business Center is part. “She brings energy, knowledge and precision to our team, and we look forward to the new offerings and resources her arrival will mean to local companies.”

“I enjoy learning about the passion local entrepreneurs have for their businesses and how they chose their paths,” explains Tucker. “Our local business people feel accountable to the community where they live, work and do business, and I can’t wait to make them aware of the local resources available to them through the Small Business Center. We will do all we can to help them thrive in North Carolina.”

As a former chamber president, Tucker developed expertise in a wide variety of topics of importance to local companies: accounting and budgeting, compliance, economic development, marketing, operations, policy creation, public relations and training. She begins work on a slate of new and continuing initiatives of value and interest to our local businesses.

Business & Industry Training
It’s National Apprenticeship Week! NAW is a nationwide celebration where industry, labor, equity, workforce, education, and government leaders showcase the successes and value of Registered Apprenticeship for re-building economies, advancing racial and gender equity and supporting underserved communities. Here at MCC we have two categories of apprenticeships: Nursing Assistant with Autumn Care of Biscoe, and Industrial Maintenance with Alandale Knitting, McRae Industries and Jordan Lumber. Apprenticeship Montgomery was created to help area employers build a skilled workforce through on-the-job training and related classroom instruction at MCC. Our business and industry experts work with employers to develop customized apprenticeship programs to meet a company’s specific needs.
