ABOUT THE MCCFA

Hospitality focused, progressive and collaborative, welcoming and interactive…the MCCFA (the Authority) was formed in 2019 and assumed ownership of the Dayton Convention Center on April 1, 2021 with a mission to restore/revitalize the heartbeat of our hospitality community. The Authority is responsible for funding certain capital improvements and services for the Dayton Convention Center that will allow the Convention & Visitors Bureau (CVB) to attract more national and regional events, driving revenue and economic growth back into Montgomery County and the City of Dayton.

The Authority uses a collaborative sales approach with hotel partners, CVB and community stakeholders to attract business segments such as Leisure, Group Tours, Associations, Corporate, Government SMERF (Society, Military, Educational, Religious and Fraternal) and Sporting events. The goal: increase demand for lodging, benefiting urban and suburban hotels and, consequently, increasing visitor spending in our local hotels, restaurants, and retail outlets throughout the County.

The MCCFA is a local government agency and operates independently, led by an 11-member Board of Directors.

Happy 50th Anniversary Dayton Convention Center!

DAYTON, Ohio (WDTN) — The Dayton Convention Center is celebrating its 50th birthday while undergoing a $40M renovation.

The center opened its doors to the public 50 years ago on Jan. 13, 1973. Prior to the pandemic, about 180,000 people visited each year from across the country.

It is currently undergoing a $40M renovation project that includes a redesign of the main exhibit halls, enhanced LED lighting and a new outdoor terrace overlooking green space.

“The plaza out front is going to completely change. Our front door is going to change,” Pam Plageman, MCCFA Executive Director and CEO, said.

"Innovation Taking Flight"

The Design Team, the MCCFA and partners finalized the design development phase of the project in January 2023 and are moving forward with the plans to transform the Dayton Convention Center, which will be a phased approach, through Q4, 2024. The DCC will be open for business and will strive for minimal disruption by working around event schedules. First up in 2023…restroom renovations, escalator re-modernization and third level ballroom and meeting room improvements. Included in the final plans are technology upgrades such as digital media signage at each meeting room and on all levels.

Travel to Columbus for PCMA

The Montgomery County Convention Facilities Authority Board and team visited the Greater Columbus Convention Center in January 2023, during the Professional Convention Managers Association (PCMA), Convening Leaders convention. The group met with John Page, ASM Global Regional Manager, and toured the GCCC and Hilton Hotels attached to the facility. The MCCFA had the privilege of meeting with Mr. Don Brown, Executive Director of the Franklin County Convention Facilities Authority (FCCFA) and team while in town, to hear about their success in Columbus, Ohio.

Construction Outlook

Design of the new transformation continues into its final phase for the Dayton Convention Center. Construction documents are slated for completion in June. The procurement of long lead mechanical items is underway. Restroom renovations will start at the end of February with the first group of bathrooms and kitchen offices. The construction crews are gearing up and mobilizing the site. Along with the restrooms, the team is planning to expedite the new refreshed finishes of the third floor meeting rooms. The progress is ramping up and will be in full swing by summer.

MCCFA Investing in Our Community

We understand and promote the importance of supporting our local community.

Rotary Club of Dayton Coat Project

The MCCFA was proud to support the Rotary Club of Dayton with their “Coat + Project” for the DPS McKinney-Vento Homeless Education Program which supports the children of displaced families attending school. Over the course of the year, the program will serve upwards of 1,000 children. Also, the Dayton Leadership Academy, a k-8 charter school with more than 400 students, are in need of coats and uniforms.

Boys and Girls Club Holiday Support

The MCCFA had the privilege of visiting the Boys & Girls Club of Dayton in December to support the children during the holiday season. Special thanks to Crystal Allen and her team for the work they do all year long to support our community’s children.

MCCFA Board Spotlight

Belinda Kenley

Belinda serves as a member of Centerville City Council, chairs the Mayor’s Business Advisory Task Force and Neighbor Relations Committee, and is a member of the Ohio Municipal League Board of Trustees. She has been recognized by Women in Business Networking as one of the year’s “25 Women To Watch” and has received awards for her work within the Ohio Attorney General’s office.

Kevin Weckesser

CPA, CVA

Kevin is a Partner and President of Brixey & Meyer, a fast-growing regional CPA and business advisory firm with offices in Dayton, Cincinnati and Columbus. He is a Chaminade Julienne High School and University of Dayton graduate with 25+ years of experience in public accounting, including 13 years with Ernst & Young. In addition to his board role with the MCCFA, Kevin currently serves on the board of trustees for Goodwill Easter Seals Miami Valley and Chaminade Julienne Catholic High School and is a past board chair for both the Dayton Area Chamber of Commerce and Muse Machine.
