MCCH Mini Hubs Brings Joy and Necessities

Meet Cordell Place residents Adrienne and David:

Adrienne experienced homeless since 2018 due to severe mental health issues. For more than 4 years, she rotated between hospitals and shelters. Since moving to Cordell's supportive housing site, the MCCH team has connected her to onsite mental health treatment, life skills training, and given her lots of opportunities to develop social skills and feel part of a caring community.

After David's mother passed away, he found himself dealing with grief, the unexpected loss of his home, and a disconnect from his mental health treatment team. He fell into homelessness for several years. Since moving to Cordell, he has been linked with our onsite psychiatrist and volunteer job coach. He became Cordell Tenant Council President at the beginning of this year. David participates in our Cordell activities and organizes and cooks a community lunch BBQ every Thursday.

One of Adrienne and David's favorite parts of staying at an MCCH site is the convenient Mini Hub. A Mini Hub is a stock of everyday items donated by community members. At Cordell, the Tenant Council helps oversee the visits. Having basic items like toiletries or cleaning supplies right downstairs is an enormous help to our residents who have few resources. We are especially thankful to Catalyst Church, Nourishing Bethesda, and Saundra Bromberg for keeping our supplies ready to help!

We currently have four sites with Mini Hubs:

YOU CAN HELP by collecting for the Mini Hub of your choosing. How you approach this is up to you! You can focus on collecting multiple of one item, or you can try to collect a smaller amount of every item. For more information, email volunteer@mcch.net.

Celebrating Seneca & A Housing Champion!

MCCH will remember and honor Jean Brady by naming our shared space at Seneca Heights, The Jean Brady Community Room.

Seneca Heights, MCCH’s award-winning, permanent supportive housing complex for formerly homeless individuals and families opened in the summer of 2004 in partnership with the Montgomery County Department of Health and Human Services, Housing Opportunities Commission, Montgomery County Department of Housing and Community Affairs, and the City of Gaithersburg. For almost 20 years it has been an effective solution to ending homelessness and helping families and individuals reestablish themselves in our community.

Jean Brady has been a driving force in securing safe and affordable housing options for decades and pioneered faith-based organizations providing housing and support to those experiencing, or at risk of experiencing homelessness. Jean used her considerable experience and passion to help direct MCCH from its earliest days.
