MCCH College Student Launch a Success

5 students whose families are cared for by MCCH headed to college this fall, including first year students Andrew and Maria at Montgomery College, and Tamika at UMBC. They have transitioned well and are enjoying their new learning environments.

Your help allows children in MCCH's supportive housing programs to achieve milestones and accomplish established growth goals. Students like Andrew, Maria, and Tamika needed a stable home to provide the foundation for their academic success.

Our direct care team provides great care and empowerment to hundreds of families, allowing us to celebrate a 98% housing stability rate.

Community Partner TISTA Continues their IMPACT

MCCH Community Partner TISTA Science & Technology Corporation continues their impact with a transformative landscaping volunteer project at the Safe Haven shelter in Silver Spring serving Veterans.

In January, TISTA made a record-breaking $500,000 donation to help purchase this home. The Safe Haven shelter lets Veterans transition from unsafe and unstable street life to permanent housing and reengage with treatment services, often within 6 months.

The caring onsite team were as delighted as the Veterans we are currently serving there. One enthusiastic Veteran said "It looks so good! Like a real home."

MCCH Approved as Overdose Response Agency

As a result of our innovative and lifesaving Harm Reduction Program, MCCH is the first homeless service provider in the state to be approved as an Overdose Response Agency.

This allows us direct access to harm reduction tools like Narcan, to provide specialized training and step into new networks of health and wellness. This training equips team members with the necessary knowledge and skills to address overdose incidents effectively and with compassion. It also fosters a culture of care within our organization.

With this resource, we can respond promptly to emergency situations and make a tangible impact on the health and safety of our clients.

Using Shelter to Strategically End Homelessness

This month 70-year-old Veteran Lenard moved from Nebel Street shelter into a Silver Spring apartment. He loves jazz, church, and friends and says he is thrilled that he can have all 3 back in his life now that he has a home.

Shelters like Nebel play a pivotal role in the homeless service system. The robust onsite services are essential to opening up a pathway to secure housing. The stabilization, assessments and links to resources can allow someone to exit into a home more quickly with the level of support they need to maintain their home.
