Your Water, Your Future!
Public Comment Needed by July 19, 2021
Last week’s Lone Star Ground Water Conservation District’s meeting, shown in progress above, included statements by Betty Daugherty, Penny Bradshaw, Laura Norton, and many other concerned citizens regarding the District’s management of ground water in Montgomery County.
According to Betty Daugherty, Montgomery County Democratic Party’s Social and Environmental Subcommittee Chair, the meeting was tense, with most of the citizens' comments focused on the fact that science tells us that because of over pumping of our aquifers, several land areas are obviously subsiding in the District, including specific areas in Conroe, South, and East Montgomery County.
The Lone Star Groundwater Conservation District (LSGCD) announced that it is at the beginning of a ninety-day public comment period regarding the issue and that Individuals who wish to share their thoughts with the Directors should submit their comments in writing to info@lonestargcd.org with the subject line “DFC Comments” no later than 11:59 p.m. on Jul. 19, 2021. LSGCD plans to hold a hearing this summer to receive and consider public comments. Individuals should sign-up for the District’s emails to be notified of the hearing date and registration process.
This is a critical environmental issue for Montgomery County. If you want to see how much the area has already shrunk, go to www.stopoursinking.com and find the link to Frequently Asked Questions. You can also contact Betty Daughtery at beetleemc@gmail.com

🎉 Juneteenth celebrations taking place across Texas
June 19, or Juneteenth, marks the day in 1865 when Union soldiers landed in Galveston, Texas with news that the Civil War had ended and the enslaved were now free. Many Texans embrace Juneteenth as a time to honor Black heritage with events across the state. This year, it’s also a time of reflection and remembrance of the work that still needs to be done for racial justice in our state.
We must continue to demand justice and accountability until the freedom that Juneteenth is meant to celebrate is no longer tainted by the continued oppression of Black folks by the systems that exist in our society.

The Democratic Club of the Woodlands
June Community Service Project
“Give Blood and Keep the World Beating”
Monday, June 14 is World Blood Donor Day. Around the world and across the country, blood donors are essential to saving lives and improving others’ health. Summer is a particularly difficult time for blood donations because individuals and families are traveling.
Locally, we currently have less than a one-day supply.
For the June community service project of the Democratic Club of The Woodlands, we are asking club members, friends and family members to donate blood. To find a location near you, go to giveblood.org. And don’t forget to take a picture of you donating and tag Club so we can thank you properly!
