A message from Mr. Jennings
I'm excited to announce that MCE has been selected as a Capturing Kids' Hearts National Showcase School! The award comes from the Flippen Group which emphasizes teachers' and staff members' connection and relationships with students, as well as social-emotional learning. The award recognizes schools across the country that have demonstrated improvement in attendance, discipline, climate/culture, or academics.

We've had another outstanding year at Maize Central Elementary. Our students have done a wonderful job handling our expectations and demonstrating positive character traits throughout the year. The staff has worked extremely hard meeting the academic and emotional needs of each student.  I'm extremely fortunate to work with such a caring and supportive staff! Thank you to all of you parents! We couldn't do the things we do at MCE without your support! We truly appreciate everything you do to help make MCE such an outstanding place! Thank you!!

The end of the school year brings about changes for the next year. Below are a few changes that will be taking place in the upcoming 2022-2023 school year.

Good luck to the following staff members who will not be returning to Maize Central next school year:
  • Taylor Ballard (4th grade) - taking a break to be with family.
  • Teresa Buchanan (2nd grade) - retirement.
  • Jenny Clark-Lutz (PBIS) - to Maize High School PBIS.
  • Jackie Foltz (Media Center Specialist) - retirement.
  • Lori Gabrielson (1st grade) - retirement.
  • Michelle Kinnevan (Kindergarten) - taking a break to be home with family.
  • Kayla McKnight (Para) - pursuing a teaching position.
  • Shari LaMunyon (Kindergarten) - retirement.
  • Sophia Perry (Sub-Para) - Student teaching and continuing education.
  • Jill Meister (Para) - to School Psychology Para at Pray Woodman.
  • Courtney Merseal (Kindergarten) - moving to SPED IS within MCE.
  • Loni Smith (Nurse) - to Maize Intermediate School.
  • Lisa Urbina (Psychologist) - on Sabbatical.
  • Janette Wilson (IS) - to Maize High School (similar position as MCE).

Thank you to our MCE families for navigating another year together full of challenges and changes. As a reminder, if your student will be coming to school at or after 8:45am when the first bell rings, please sign them in at the front office. Additionally, students leaving early will not be called down until a guardian or approved pick up contact is present to sign them out. We're excited to finish this last quarter of school before a much deserved Summer break. The kids have worked so hard while keeping up their Mustang Pride!

Sincerely,
David Jennings

Capturing Kids' Hearts & Social Emotional Learning
Capturing Kids' Hearts (CKH) & Social Emotional Learning (SEL)
With less than two months left in the 2021-22 school year, MCE students and staff will finish strong! Not giving up, working hard, and determination are the keys to success! The character traits, Acceptance & Perseverance, will be incorporated in the SEL lessons this spring.  Through our CKH and SEL programs, students are encouraged to work hard to achieve their goals in and away from school.  Please click here for the CKH family newsletter about ways to incorporate these character traits at home.  For the Spanish copy click here.
