A message from Mr. Jennings
Hello MCE Mustang Families,

Our school days are dwindling before we go on Winter Break, however there are some changes that you may have heard about that will be important for these last few days as well as when we return.

A quick reminder of the new COVID mitigation rules beginning Mon. Dec. 20th:

  • The district will no longer facilitate contact tracing and the identification of high-risk and low-risk close contacts in the event of a positive COVID case in our schools or at school activities, including sports. Those notified will be encouraged to monitor for symptoms. but the district will no longer require its test-to-learn program.
  • The district will continue to offer COVID testing for those who begin to exhibit symptoms during the school day at school and during its before- and after-school COVID rapid testing clinics, but daily testing will no longer be required as it has been. The clinic will be closed the afternoon of Wednesday, Dec. 22 and through Winter Break. The clinic will resume normal hours on Wednesday, Jan. 5.
  • Maize USD 266 will continue COVID mitigation measures, including maintaining maximum ventilation practices, enhanced cleaning, and regular handwashing and sanitizing. Vaccinations remain strongly encouraged but not required. Those interested in seeking a vaccination for their child can contact their healthcare provider, seek information from a local pharmacy/clinic, and/or access the vaccine through the Sedgwick County Health Department. On Dec. 1, the health department began offering vaccines on a walk-in basis. Learn more and find other vaccine providers by clicking here.
  • You may also find the full list of student and staff expectations, COVID mitigation guidelines, and other information and resources regarding COVID by clicking here to visit our Together Again section on the USD 266 website. Thank you for working together to keep our students safe and healthy!

We've had an amazing first half of the school year! Our students, staff, and families make our school a great place to grow and learn together. On behalf of all of us at MCE, we want to wish you a safe and wonderful holiday, as well as a Happy New Year, over this much deserved break! Please see below for our Winter Break dates.

Capturing Kids' Hearts & Social Emotional Learning
Capturing Kids' Hearts & Social Emotional Learning
Each day, as part of our Capturing Kids’ Hearts program, students are encouraged to share good things with their classmates and teacher. These “good things” can be as small as, “I woke up on time!” to as big as, “I am going to Disney World next week!” Each child is celebrated and given a turn to share throughout the week. Teachers also take their turn in sharing good things about themselves. Sharing these small snippets helps the students start each day positively and feel valued by their peers. Additionally, sharing good things helps the teachers increase positive interactions with students and create positive relationships within the class. Good things can easily carry over into conversation at home or in the car. Ask your child to lead a family discussion at dinner or before bed, or ask him/her what good things were shared in class each day. Focusing on the positive and celebrating what is important in each child’s life is a small way to make a big, positive difference. Please click here for the CKH family newsletter over self-direction, sharing good things, and showing gratitude!
