Hello MCE Mustang families!

Spring Break for all schools in the Maize district is from March 15th to 19th.

I would like to remind everyone that we will begin the Kansas State Assessments April 12th and 15th with the 5th grade students taking the state science assessment. The science assessment consists of two sessions. April 19th-22nd, grades 3-5 will be tested on the English/Language Arts (ELA) portion of the test. The ELA test is comprised of two sessions. Lastly, April 26th-29th, grades 3-5 will take the math portion of the state assessment. Like the ELA, the math assessment is comprised of two test sessions. The teachers have been working very hard teaching the Kansas College and Career Readiness Standards and preparing their students for the state assesments. Please look for your child's class testing schedule for their teacher. Please take note of some ways that you can support your child.

  • Attendance is extremely important during testing, so please schedule any appointments around the testing schedule.
  • Make sure your child is getting enough rest each night.
  • Students need to fuel their brains during testing so encourage them to eat a balanced breakfast.
  • Let your child know you are aware of the testing. Encourage him/her to do well by writing an encouraging note and staying positive.

Arrival and Dismissal information
  • Doors will open at 8:30 am
  • Parents should not exit their vehicles during drop off or pick up.

  • Students who walk to school should arrive no earlier than 8:30 am

Other Reminders
  • MCE will have a drop off/pick up table positioned in our secure entryway for homework or any forgotten items that need to be picked up or delivered to a classroom.
  •  All children must wear a mask that covers the mouth and nose. If they do not have one available, a mask will be provided.
  • Visitors/volunteers will not be allowed in the building at this time.
  • Water fountains have been turned off in the building with the exception of fill stations. Please send a water bottle with your child daily.

Thank you for your continued support of MCE, it is greatly appreciated. Have a wonderful spring break with family and friends! Be safe!

KDHE COVID-19 GUILDELINES
With Spring Break approaching, I just wanted to send a reminder in regards to travel, COVID, and quarantining.
These are the current guidelines from KDHE:

Those who have traveled to the following locations need to quarantine upon arrival in Kansas. The length of quarantine varies depending on whether you have been tested for COVID-19. This applies to both Kansas residents and those visiting Kansas:
  • Traveled on or after Feb. 26 to the countries of Mayotte, Czechia, San Marino, Montenegro or Seychelles.
  • Attended/traveled to mass gathering events out-of-state of 500 people or greater where individuals do not socially distance (6 feet) and wear masks.
  • Been on a cruise ship or river cruise on or after March 15, 2020.
  • Others needing to continue quarantining:
  • Received notification from public health officials (state or local) that you are a close contact of a laboratory-confirmed case of COVID-19.

Please remember that this information could change at any time, so please check with local guidelines.

ATTENDANCE
If your child(ren) will be absent from school, please notify your child's teacher via email and call the attendance line 316-722-0427 (option 1) and leave a message. The absence will be marked as unexcused if the office/teacher is not notified. Thank you!
BOX TOPS
No More Clipping! Just Scan Your Receipt!
Don't like to clip? There's a new way you can support our school with Box Tops for Education. Simply download the Box Tops for Education app, choose Maize Central Elementary School in the setup, and then just scan your receipt every time you grocery shop. It will pick up from your receipt whether or not there are box tops and credit them to the school. So easy! For more information, Click Here.
MOVING?

If you have moved or will be moving, but are still in district, please send a Proof of Residency to the school office as soon as possible. You can email it to kmarshall@usd266.com or fax it to the school office at 316-722-8307.
  •  An Acceptable Proof of Residence includes a copy of your mortgage/lease agreement, including signature page, or a current copy of your gas, water or electric bill.
  • If you have any questions regarding Proof of Residence, please feel free to contact the school office.
If you are moving OUT of district, please contact Katelyn Marshall at kmarshall@usd266.com or by phone at 316-722-0427. Please include the new school, city, and state you will be transferring to so we can prepare your student's records for transfer.
EARLY CHECK OUT PROCEDURE
Parents/guardians need to come to the front office to sign their student out on the sign-out sheet in the office entryway, then the office staff will call the student to the office.

Parents can notify the teacher in advance via email to let them know that they will be leaving early, but students will not be called to the office before the parent/guardian arrives to the school to pick them up.
