Message from the President & CEO
Cupcake icing on my desk, half-empty water bottles on my window ledge, empty food cartons, a random pair of scissors and extra brochures...that is what greeted me when I walked into my office this morning and it made me smile because they were all good signs of a successful open house the night before.
What made it so successful? Well it all started with a great team, and I am proud to call that team my own. I am blessed to have not only my core team of MCE employees, but an extended team of third-party trainers and facilitators. Together they make a lot happen and that includes the event last night.
So why? Why is it this team works so well together? Why did they volunteer for jobs outside of their job duties? Why did they work way past office hours on this occasion? Why did they pull together so well?
I believe first and foremost, it is about commitment to our vision; to be recognized as Ontario's leading expert in corporate training. Everyone who works here believes in MCE. We are driven by doing what is best for our customers, and ultimately, that will result in what is best for us.
We take pride in our relationship with Mohawk College. We never take for granted the value of the brand. We appreciate the support of our colleagues from the President, Ron McKerlie, down. This too unites us as a team.
We also work on it. We work on increasing the strength of the team. We carve out time in our busy schedules to have real, and sometimes difficult, conversations. We aren't perfect but we are getting there!
Thank you to everyone who helped put our Open House together. It was an honour for me to stand before our guests as the President & CEO of Mohawk College Enterprise.
Audie McCarthy

Collaborating with MCE to host a Business After 5 Networking Event, in conjunction with their Open House at their Stoney Creek Mohawk College Campus, yielded a great turnout and a rich networking environment. Mohawk College President, Ron McKerlie, brought greetings and MCE President, Audie McCarthy, and her MCE team were gracious and inspiring hosts. We look forward to working with Mohawk/MCE on future programming and networking opportunities."

Tips for Building Strong Teams
- Hire for "fit". Every organization has a unique culture. When hiring, make sure the new employee is a good fit with the team. This doesn't mean they have to be the same as the other employees (diversity is a good thing), but they have to have the same values and principles.
- Listen to what is being said, and what is not being said. Both are equally important. Observe behaviour, respond accordingly.
- Act. Don't let things go. No one likes to have a difficult conversation and it's easier (temporarily) to just ignore issues. Issues don't go away, they grow. Gather all the information you need, then act.
- Spend time together; socially and professionally. Get to know each other. Find commonalities and appreciate differences.
- Build collaboration into job responsibilities. Plan an event together, work on a project, create a buddy system and build support for each other into daily routines.
