Are you graduating in May, 2018?

1) Make sure you apply online to graduate and complete your departmental paperwork for graduation by Feb. 1, 2018.

2) Please email mcedc@colorado.edu that you plan on graduating this semester so we can begin the process of verifying the completion of your EDC Graduate Certificate so that it is awarded upon your official graduation. Thank you and congratulations!
Showcase Your Research

The Mortenson Center wants to feature EDC students' research on our website. Please send sarah.goodroad@colorado.edu an on-site photo of you and your project and a one-to-two line description of your research. Thank you!
Do you need to complete a Disclosure of External Professional Activities (DEPA)?

Research Assistants (all levels) and non-employee graduate students must report if currently involved in the design, conduct, or reporting of any research or if involved in a CU employee-affiliated company/entity. Complete the report by logging into myCUinfo.  A 2018 DEPA is required to be on file regardless of whether or not a conflict exists. Deadline:  March 31, 2018

Webinar: Use of Black Soldier Fly Larva for Fecal Sludge Treatment

Literature Review To Support WHO positions - Paid Opportunity

Are you interested in what WHO is doing regarding guidelines for drinking water quality? Karl Linden is  looking for someone to assist in a literature review to support WHO decisions on what log reduction values to assign to drinking water technologies.  We need help immediately and through April. Hourly pay.

Email Karl ( karl.linden@colorado.edu) if you are interested, why you are interested, and how many hours per week you have to spend on this between now and mid April.  You would work with two other graduate students on the information development.  This could also be used for an MS project, writing up a literature review to be published, from the information that is gathered, if you are interested.

The United Government of Graduate Students (UGGS) is offering travel grants. Graduate students may apply for up to $300 for individual travel within the US, Mexico, Canada and US territories and up to $750 for group grants, which can be used for events held in Boulder. The Engineers Without Borders student group is seeking speakers for the following topics:
  • History of aid projects
  • Other chapters successes & failures
  • Funding of development 
  • How to measure impact
  • How to assess project feasibility
  • Different fields of development work that are not WASH (structural, refugee movement, shelters/settlements, etc.)
  • Development gap
  • Q&A about careers in development

The pilot initiative, "New Voices in Sciences, Engineering and Medicine (SEM)", seeks to identify outstanding early-career SEM leaders to articulate and communicate the evidence base to address national and global challenges; provide new perspectives on issues important to the National Academies; and identify approaches to expand the diversity of expertise on the Academies' activities. 

Nominate yourself or someone you know who has demonstrated a commitment to leadership and serving the SEM community through science policy, communication, education, outreach, international or interdisciplinary engagement, or leadership development.  Nominate now.

Mar. 1, 2018 - Proposal deadline

This year's Internationalization Summit on April 13, is "What's with a border? International engagement in a troubled world". The event is intended to be a forum to engage in meaningful conversation, connect and share practices and present emerging research relating to the internationalization of higher education. Formats for the summit include research presentations, applied workshops, lectures, reflective sessions, round-tables, and panel discussions. More guidance on submitting proposals.
