We are pleased to have you joining us for another great semester of Engineering for Developing Communities information, events, and collaborations.

Apply for the MCEDC Fellowship NOW! Due 1/13/17

The applications for the Mortenson Center Graduate Fellowships are available now online and are due this Friday, January 13, 2017 at 11:59pm.  These fellowships range from approximately $1,000 to $3,500 and are paid to the student's bursar's account before the spring tuition deadline. Only current EDC students are eligible to apply.

The EDC student directory is now live with those individuals who submitted information.  If you'd like to be added, please send an email with the following information to MCEDC,

1) a photo of you - professional headshot if possible
2) your name, MS or PhD student, research/topic area?
3) your email or LinkedIn profile if you want it to be public
4)  short bio

WASH Symposium Planning Meetings

Every Wednesday
1:00 - 2:00 pm 
CEAE Graduate Student Lounge, Room ECCE 162
(across from the Bechtel computer lab)

The WASH Symposium  is a two-day event that brings together academics, practitioners, students, and community members to discuss relevant topics in water, sanitation, and hygiene globally. It's an entirely student-driven event and the planning starts now! Students interested in helping with the event planning should attend these weekly meetings and email Matt Bentley ( with any questions.

Become a Journey Leader
New Student and Family Programs is recruiting students to serve as a 2017 Journey Leader (JL).  The Journey Leader position is a new volunteer leadership experience on campus and these leaders work with new students and their families throughout their transition to the University of Colorado, Boulder.

International Research Conference on Sustainable Energy, Engineering, Materials and Environment

Abstract submission deadline: January 26th

This event offers a platform for worldwide researchers and scientists from academia, industry and government to discuss proposals and disseminate results on sustainable energy and materials and its impact on engineering and our environment. The formation of lasting productive partnerships between the participants is also an objective of this conference. Student Paper Competition

ASCE Student Paper Competition on United Nations Sustainable Development Goals

Submission deadline January 15th at 5:00 EST
In 4-8 pages, submissions ought to address the role of the engineer in meeting the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Think VISION. Papers addressing multidisciplinary (engineering & non-engineering) approaches to addressing UN SDGs are especially encouraged. You can view the whole call here:
EDC Conference Travel Funds Available

Remember that the Mortenson Center offers travel funds to students who present EDC-relevant work at conferences. To apply, check out the link on the MCEDC Resources website .  You'll also find links to department, college, and campus funding opportunities for conference presentations.
