Welcome to a New Year!

On behalf of the Mortenson Center leadership team, I'd like to welcome everyone to the 2016-2017 Academic Year!  The Mortenson Center has lots of great activities planned for students this year and we hope to continue to be a resource for faculty, staff, students, and organizations interested in sustainable development from a holistic perspective. I'm looking forward to working with all of you in the months to come.

Individuals on our weekly digest mailing list will receive an email every Monday morning throughout the academic semester.  For now, I'm just providing you with lots of "save the date" type of information.

All students who are new to the Engineering for Developing Communities Program certificate program, tracks, and professional master's degree are strongly encouraged to attend this information session.  This will be your opportunity to meet members of the leadership team and learn about program requirements,

Practicum Presentations & Community Celebration

Please mark your calendars and join us for presentations by seven students who completed their field practicums this summer.  This event will allow our students to discuss their experiences with host agencies is open to the public and 

MCEDC Will Be Hiring Student Assistants 

This is a heads up that the Mortenson Center will likely hire two graduate students as Earn-learn Apprentices this year.  We are finalizing job descriptions, but the tasks are mainly administrative in nature. for example, we're looking for a student to produce these weekly digest (newsletters), manage the blog and facebook posts, and schedule events.  A second student will analyze survey responses and work to develop a plan for a student design competition.  Earn-learn Apprentices (ELAs) work up to 10 hours per week, are paid $12/hour, and cannot be already funded as teaching or research assistants.  There are no tuition benefits attached to this hourly position.  Keep an eye out on the upcoming newsletters for more information. 
Conference Presentation Scholarships

EDC students are invited to apply for funds to help off-set the expenses of presenting their EDC-related work at conferences around the world.  For a full list of available funding sources, visit the Conference Funding Opportunities section of the MCEDC Resources website at
