As I suffer through another 80-degree sunny day in Florida, I am thinking about you all in cold New England. We look forward to our first comedy night on Saturday February 24th. It will surely be a hoot!
Speaking of New England, you are invited to cheer on our Patriots at the Marine Corps League Super Bowl Party. Drink specials and great food starting at 4pm on Super Bowl Sunday, February 5th.
We have been asked again to pass out awards to the young athletes at the conclusion of the Special Olympics Winter Games. We have had good participation in the past and ask again for your help. Please keep your schedule open on March 11th and 12th.

For the last 94 years, every permanent or acting head of the U.S. veterans benefits bureaucracy has served in the military. But that is expected change in coming days.
President Donald Trump’s pick for the next Veterans Affairs Secretary, Dr. David Shulkin, is poised to become the first non-veteran to assume that post, a tradition-breaking move that has produced surprisingly little controversy within the military community.

Scholarship Purpose, Eligibility, Requirements
- Purpose: To grant scholarships to qualified applicants who are pursuing full time undergraduate or technical training at a recognized institution.
- Eligible Sponsors;
A. Members in good standing of Marine Corps league Worcester Detachment 144.
B. Sponsors must be active and attend a minimum of four monthly meetings of the Worcester Detachment 144 in scholarship award year.
- Eligible Recipients;
A .Member, spouses, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren of the sponsor.
B. The sponsor’s stepchildren are also eligible.
- Requirements:
A. Applications will only be dispensed to sponsors attending a Worcester Detachment 144 meeting.
B. Completed applications must be returned by September 1st. C. If selected you must provide proof of enrollment (Verification Form) From you or your school and returned by November 15th.
5. Awards;
A. $200 annually for a maximum of four years.
B. Years need not be consecutive years.
C. Checks are usually mailed in med December.
