    HAPPY 241st BIRTHDAY MARINES !!!
         Your Commandants Message
      November is upon us already, the docks will be coming out Sunday November 6th, the Marine Corps Birthday on 10 November, and the Tun Tavern Luncheon on the 10th of November. We will also have a Birthday party at the League on the 10th of November in the evening.

     The Worcester Marine Corps League will be hosting the 241st Marine Corps Birthday Ball on Saturday the 12th of November 2016 for all our members both Marines veterans and” active duty”, and Associates. Our keynote speaker will be Massachusetts Veterans Affairs Services Marine Francisco Urena. We will be having a DJ for music, a fine dinner and a lot of toasting, dancing, and B-Sing to round out the night.

    This month our E-Board will meeting on the 9th of November, with the monthly meeting on the 21st of November. At this monthly meeting we will be having final nominations and voting for E-Board positions, along with our regular business. We are having nominations and voting a month late due to the month of October there was not a Quarum of officers to have a legal meeting. This meeting is an important one for all our Marine members to nominate the Marine you think will live up to the high standards of leadership, honesty, and being a team player.

    The TOYS for TOTS program is coming up in December and we will be needing volunteers to help solicit, and distribute boxes to businesses and then pick them up. This program is a joint effort with Marines and Associates working together for the under privileged children that we support. We will be soliciting both in Worcester and Auburn the first Saturday in December the 3rd, with a rain date of the 10th of December. Even though we would stand in the rain or snow to solicit, the Town of Auburn won’t let us, that’s why the rain date.

    As Commandant over the last 2 years it’s been a pleasure working with my staff, the associates, especially Gina LaConte who has stepped up unselfishly, and has helped me and the League in boosting our financial efforts to repair our aged seawall,” Thank You”. I also would like thank our Bar Staff, and our new Bar Manager Arianna for her willingness to make our League better and protect our assets from unscrupulous people. Nominations and voting is always an unpredictable time with the League. So, I hope to be with you as Commandant next term, but you never know.

    The key for success for the future of the detachment, is you.

The number of veterans in Congress will likely drop again next year.

The overall number of veterans serving in Congress will likely drop again next session, even as the number of lawmakers who fought in the recent wars continues to rise.

An analysis from the nonpartisan Veterans Campaign shows that for the first time in 70 years, Congress could boast fewer than 100 veterans in the House and Senate in 2017. That is due in large part to retirements of World War II, Korean War and Vietnam War veterans, and the aging of America’s veterans population as a whole.

November 11, 2016 is the Veteran’s Day Parade;

We are looking for volunteers to march in the parade and give a good representation of the League.

Parade will kick off at 1100 sharp, with set up at 1015 in the parking lot at the corner of Grove St and Glennie St. Worcester,Ma.

We will meet down at the League at 0915 to pick up rifles, and flags, etc. and proceed to the kick off site.

Following the parade we will go down to the John Powers Monument and pay our respects and do the firing.

Lastly we will be going to Green Hill to the Viet Nam Memorial to do the Honor Guard for 1400.

Would like to have the Young Marines at the parade as part of our Detachment.
