Virtual Office Hours
Traditionally our Advance Care Planning (ACP) education sessions begin to pick up this time of year. Although our physical office will be closed through the remainder of 2020, we are still available for education and conversations! We can provide a customized, online ACP presentation for your faith group, community club, support group, employee assistance program, your family…the possibilities are endless!

Contact us at 616-421-4840 or at info@makingchoicesmichigan.org and let us help you have the conversation about #WhatMattersMost

Caring Conversations During COVID-19

We have had a number of conversations with people who wanted to either update their Advance Directive (AD) or create one for the first time.
Right now we are also offering the option of a COVID-specific treatment preference form, courtesy of The Conversation Project.

If you want to learn more about COVID-19 and how it could affect your treatment decisions, go to our “Caring Conversations during COVID-19” video series page. Featuring local experts and MCM Steering Committee members, these videos cover a range of topics to help you feel empowered about your choices and decisions.

Death Café: What is it and why would I want to attend?

When: Wednesday, Sept. 30, 2020 | 6 p.m. via Zoom

Making Choices Michigan is changing the end-of-life narrative from a negative to a positive death experience. The goal of a Death Cafe is “to increase awareness of death with a view to helping people make the most of their (finite) lives.” To do this, we try to get people to think about death, sharing their feelings and experiences. We believe that our society doesn’t make it easy to talk about death. This is what Death Cafe does – it makes time for people to talk and think about death and end of life decisions in a relaxed and safe setting (your own home)!

This event is led by veteran MCM facilitators Jill Peirce & Community Engagement Organizer Dr. Carol Robinson. Registration is limited to 20 participants.

MCM October Book Club:
Tuesdays with Morrie
When: Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2020 at 4 p.m. via Zoom

Tuesdays with Morrie was on the best seller list for over 5 years. Join us for a lively, thought provoking session as we talk about the impact of this book, why it still strikes a chord today, and the lifelong lessons that Morrie not only imparted to his pupil Mitch, but people the world over. Was Morrie a very unique person? Or can we learn from his lessons and be more like him by making changes in our own lives?

Our Impact
Thanks to our partners around the state who register their patient and client Advance Directives to the Virtual Integrated Patient Record (VIPR), we now have over 73,000 documents available in the secure Community Health Record! Registering these documents makes them available (only as appropriate) to a state-wide network of hospitals, primary, specialty, and allied care organizations, ensuring that healthcare providers will have immediate access to their patient's wishes.
