New 2023-2024 Bell Schedule for Monroe County Middle School
April 13, 2023 - Beginning in August 2023, Monroe County Middle School students will have new arrival and dismissal times. Classes at the middle school will begin at 8 a.m. Dismissal will take place at 3 p.m. This change will help alleviate bus traffic congestion and allow more space for future growth.
Transportation Director Jake Davis says, “We have run out of space to safely add additional buses to our loading areas at Monroe County Middle School and Mary Persons High School. As we continue to anticipate the need for growth, we have to address that now.”
Aligning the times at MPHS and MCMS will also allow Monroe County Schools to station buses simultaneously at both schools, allowing them to begin their routes sooner, while also accommodating the large number of student athletes needed to transfer from one campus to the other.
More information about the change will be released as we get closer to the start of the school year.

Book Review
Liam Parks
recommends
The Renegades Trilogy
by Marissa Meyer
Liam Parks, an 8th grader, recommends this book to his peers because he believes that "the three books in the trilogy, Renegades, Archenemies, and Supernova are action packed and very well written." Including everything from saving people in burning buildings to one-on-one stand offs, something is always happening. He says, "These books also flip the point of view between two people, both the villain and the hero. Books like this always gave both sides of the story & makes it overall more well-rounded."
Liam gives this book a 5 out of 5!

Fall is like a ball
Fall is like a ball
Leaves dance with the wind
Branches frolic and sway,
The cold mist blows upon warm homes
The clouds and sky mingle
With the low orange horizon.
Pumpkins galore and spices even more.
Why should you like fall you ask?
Because Fall is like a ball.

12 Tips to Be a Brilliant Listener with Your Child
Parents often ask what they can say to get their child talking. The secret isn't about what you say. It's about how you listen.
|
|
What You'll Learn
- Pay full attention.
- Use conversation openers rather than conversation closers.
- Use words that validate your child's experience.
- Empathize instead of probing.
- Don't put your child on the spot.
- Don’t start by trying to change the feeling or cheer her up.
- Don’t start solving the problem.
- Close your mouth.
- Match your reaction with his mood.
- Keep the conversation safe for your child by managing your own emotions.
- Remember that all your child's behavior is communication.
- Help your child process emotions with your empathy.

IMPORTANT ATTENDANCE REMINDERS
It has come to our attention that there is some confusion about the requirements needed to document student absences at MCMS. Please be aware of the following excerpts from our MCMS Student Handbook-School Attendance Policy:
“Upon returning after an absence, a student should bring a note from the parent or doctor.”
“Students who desire to document an absence shall present a written excuse signed by a parent or guardian within three (3) school days of returning to school. Documentation may not be sent by Fax, email, or telephone."
