PRINCIPAL PIC OF THE WEEK
jonathan carr - mcms teacher of the year - 2024-25

LET'S CELEBRATE!

Congratulations to

Mr. Jonathan Carr,

Monroe County Middle School 2024-25

Teacher of the Year!

Mr. Carr has been in education for 7 years and taught at KB Sutton for three years before coming here to MCMS where he has taught for four years. He has taught 5th grade Math, Science, and Writing, 6th grade Math, and is now teaching Business Education to 6th, 7th, and 8th graders. He has a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration with an emphasis on information systems from Georgia College and State University, a Master's in Teaching focusing on middle grades Math and Science, and a Specialist’s Degree from Valdosta State University with an emphasis on Instructional Technology.  He also has a Gifted Endorsement and is certified to teach 6th -12th grade Business Education. When asked what he loves most about his job, he answers that it "Serving others makes me the happiest. God has given me a unique opportunity to glorify Him by serving others through my role as a teacher. I try to do this every chance that I get and when communicating with students, parents, co-workers, and our community. My heart gets filled when I can help. There is always a need somewhere in a school building, and I thoroughly enjoy seeing that need and jumping in to fulfill it. This happens within my classroom in some way every day and outside of it most days. Additionally, when teaching, I love the moment I have the opportunity to witness a student understand a concept for the first time. When students “get it,” it makes all of the planning and work that goes into teaching seem worthwhile." And, fun fact, this is actually Mr. Carr’s third career. He went into education specifically middle grades, because he remembers middle school being a pivotal time of development in his own life, when the teachers from that era “steered” him in better directions and helped him build a foundation for success. He wanted to use his knowledge and experiences to benefit the students and to help them build those same foundations. Before teaching, he worked for Kroger for 12 years in various roles and owned a Pepperidge Farm distributorship for 8 years. Mr. Chambers affirms his selection saying, "Mr. Carr is a proud teacher for the Monroe County school district. He is a true professional whose practices reinforce his passion for teaching every day. He has built positive relationships with his students and co-workers that will last a lifetime. "

Congratulations, Mr. Carr!! We know you will represent MCMS well!

February 13 through 15, six students from MCMS traveled to Athens to represent us at the GMEA All-State Chorus event! All-State is an auditioned event where students go through two rounds of sight reading, scales, a solo, and singing select measures of music that they learn on their own. McKenna Moore, Brady Hanson, Sam Nickel, Addison Holloway, Elizabeth Goode, and Jenny Fox each made it through both rounds of auditions and spent three days singing and rehearsing music with other All-State Chorus members in their choirs. At the end of the weekend, they each took part in the All-State Chorus Concert, where each of the seven choirs performed and showcased their work! We are so proud of each of them for their hard work and dedication to making beautiful music!

WHAT'S BEEN HAPPENING

Our MCMS counselors took a group of interested students on the annual field trip to the "Telling Our Story" exhibit here in Forsyth. This was a great way to honor Black History Month while learning about individuals in our community who made a significant impact. Afterwards, the students came back to MCMS for ice cream sundaes.

The Connections Department bonded for fun and fellowship last week and chilled out with chili and cake honoring Mr. Carr for his TOTY award.

They also had tons of fun playing Scattergories, and by the look on Coach Miller's face below, you can see he was bummed out for losing. Coach Hick joined too but had to leave early so missed the photo. Thanks to Mrs. Bennett for being their photographer... and to those who were not able to attend, Ms. Monahan, Mrs. Lempert, Mrs. Wynn, and Mrs. Karr, you were missed!

A few results are still outstanding as the counselors are working on makeups with students who were absent during these sessions.
