MCMS Fall Physician Forum

Join your colleagues on Thursday, September 10, for an evening of CME, peer connection, and timely conversations exploring both the rapidly evolving role of artificial intelligence in medicine and the enduring importance of humanity in patient care.
The evening features David Cha, MD, Associate Chief Medical Information Officer at Premier Health, presenting the featured CME session, The Physician's AI Playbook: Evaluate It, Use It, Own It, a practical, clinically grounded program designed to help physicians evaluate AI tools, understand their limitations, and apply them responsibly in clinical practice.
We are honored to welcome Bobby Mukkamala, MD, Immediate Past President of the American Medical Association, as this evening's keynote presentation, Lessons From Both Sides of the Exam Room: Preserving Humanity in Modern Medicine. Drawing from his experiences as both a physician and a patient, Dr. Mukkamala will reflect on preserving trust, empathy, and the human connection at a time when medicine continues to evolve.

Advocacy Update: Insurer Takebacks Reform Signed into Law
Led by the Ohio State Medical Association (OSMA) and supported by physician advocates across the state, Senate Bill 162 has been signed into law—marking a significant advocacy victory for Ohio physicians.
For years, physicians have faced the frustration of insurers approving and paying claims, only to later demand repayment through retrospective audits. SB 162 establishes new protections that create a more predictable and transparent payment audit process, helping reduce unnecessary administrative burdens for physician practices.
Advocacy doesn't end at the Statehouse.
MCMS is proud to partner with OSMA in advancing physician advocacy across Ohio. Our physicians also continue serving as trusted voices for healthcare policy in both the media and the legislative process.
This summer, MCMS Past President Tom Proctor, MD, shared his firsthand perspective in a recent Dayton Daily News story examining claims denials, prior authorization requirements, lengthy appeals, and insurance reimbursement challenges affecting physicians and patients.

2026 Annual Meeting
Celebrating Leadership and Service
More than 160 physicians, residents, medical students, and community partners gathered this spring for the MCMS Annual Meeting. The evening celebrated physician leadership, recognized service to the profession, and welcomed Nancy A. Pook, MD, as the 177th President of the Montgomery County Medical Society.
An emergency physician, MCMS member, and dedicated advocate for physician leadership, Dr. Pook used her inaugural address to reflect on the Society’s legacy and the responsibility physicians share to stay connected, engaged, and heard.
As she reminded attendees, “Our collective strength comes from participation.”

The program includes personalized transition planning, expert symptom management, 24/7 clinical support, caregiver education, psychosocial and spiritual care, and close coordination with nephrologists, dialysis centers, and primary care physicians. The goal is to maximize comfort, preserve dignity, and ensure patients and families receive the support they need every step of the way.
