School Bags

Every week, there are students in the Catholic school system who experience weekends of food insecurity in their homes. Similar to HACAP's backpack program in the public schools, MCO assembles bags of weekend supplies for those families in need of provisions.

Stocked with nutritious and easily prepared items, our pantry volunteers assemble individual bags each week. Counselors from the Catholic schools keep us apprised of the number of families in each school with this need. Volunteers drop off the bags at the various schools on Thursdays or Fridays.

As the school year starts once again this month, we depend on your donations of items such as mac & cheese cups, breakfast bars, ramen cups, fruit cups, cereal cups, etc.

Forty or more students are helped every single weekend. Thanks to all our donors for helping with this much needed program!

More Meat!

Once again, a heartfelt thank you to our donors at Ag & Business Legal Strategies!

This week Mike, their Office Administrator, delivered a huge donation of over 900 pounds of ground beef and pork right to our dock.

Each of our food boxes contain at least one package of frozen meat, two to three packages for larger families.

Meat prices, as everyone knows, have risen and it is one of the priciest necessities we purchase for our food boxes. (Because meat handling temperatures are strictly regulated, we are unable to accept fresh or frozen meat from individual donors.)

Thanks again to our partners at Ag & Business Legal Strategies for this amazing donation!

Produce From Palo

As we reported last week, Cedar River Garden Center in Palo will donate garden produce each week for us to distribute to local families in need. All we have to do is come and get it!

This first week, one of our faithful delivery drivers, Mark, picked up the first load of 350 pounds of beautiful fresh zucchini, cucumbers and tomatoes. Our clients were thrilled to choose from this selection when they picked up their food boxes this week.

Special thanks to Mark, who will be our regular Monday volunteer for picking up and delivering this very generous donation.

Monday is Garden

Drop-Off Day

Our Monday afternoons have seen an amazing response from local gardeners.

Every Monday from 1:00pm - 2:00pm, we have volunteers waiting at our dock to receive any of your garden bounty you would like to bring us. Getting it all fresh on Mondays allows us to sort and package your nutritious home-grown fare for distribution to our neighbors in need on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays.

No need to call first if you are coming, just show up between 1:00 and 2:00.

Thanks for keeping our volunteers busy on

Monday afternoons!
