Financial Assistance

Thanks to the generosity of our parishioners and many local donors, not only is MCO a thriving food pantry, but we are able to help some local families each month with rent or utility assistance.

With $7,200 allocated every 30 days, we are able to assist about 12-15 households each month, in addition to groceries. That's nearly $90,000 and almost 200 households per year.

Paying up anywhere from $90 to $750 per household, these funds allow us to provide the boost a family may need to get back on track after an unexpected setback in finances. Our clients are carefully vetted to ensure that our payment will be accepted by the landlord or utility company. We also require the household to be sustainable, having the means to pay in the coming months after we help them out. Financial assistance is only available to a client once a year, up to three times total.

Our Financial Assistance Team is currently made up of six experienced and compassionate volunteers. Mark, pictured above, met with a gentleman today who needed just over $400 to catch up with his electric bill to avoid disconnection. The others on the team, Mike, Barb, Mary, Deb, and Mary, donate their time for a few days each month calling landlords, utility companies, and meeting with clients.

For the many households requesting financial assistance that we can't help, we can always offer our generous food boxes. By our numbers at the top of each newsletter you can see that we are able to provide groceries (valued at more than $130) for about 150 households each and every week.

Thank you to all our parishioners, donors, and many other generous supporters for ALL you do in making this assistance possible for our neighbors in need!

Bring Us Your Garden Extras

As autumn progresses, many of you still have garden bounty you are harvesting. We can ensure that any of your excess lands on the tables of local families in need. Our clients are so appreciative to receive fresh garden vegetables with their food boxes!

IMPORTANT: Bring in your garden donations on MONDAYS OR TUESDAYS, so they can be sorted and distributed with our Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday distributions. (Fresh items donated at the end of our week are generally unusable by the next week's distribution schedule.)

Be sure to bring your donations directly inside to us during our office hours, 9:00-3:00, as we are unable to distribute ANY food left outside the door for us to find.

Thank you for all the garden produce brought in during the growing season!
