MCS Hero of the Week

Dr. Um is an incredible, talented teacher and musician! His hard work, joy, and love for the orchestra program is evident not only through his teaching and violin playing, but as well as the gifts and talents our students display in several music performances throughout the school year.

Our students are becoming godly musicians under Dr. Um's instruction. Thank you for the huge impact you are making in the Mariners Institute for the Arts program and on all of our student musicians. You are reminding students, and all of us, to always give our best offering in worship to God through the gifts and talents He has given us.

The students love you and we love you!
Summer Blessings to the MCS Family!
"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls."
Matthew 11:28-29

Thank you for the memories MCS Families. We appreciate each and every one of you and pray God's richest blessings on you and your family.  May you find your refreshment in the Lord this summer.

Look for a "beginning of summer" e-newsletter during the week of June 17th or 24th.
PTF Blesses our Teachers and Aides!
MCS has a special tradition of giving our wonderful teachers and aides a cash gift during Character Quality Awards called "The PTF Blessing Fund." It is typically based on voluntary contributions from parents and supplemented by our Parent Teacher Fellowship.

Our PTF Board wanted to honor our families for their contributions being made in support of the Bright Future Campaign. Therefore, this year, the PTF Board is excited to bless our teachers and aides with funds from the PTF Budget. The room moms made this presentation on behalf of the PTF Board during each class's Character Quality Award time.

PTF joyfully thanks our teachers and aides for building into our children this year, and prays for a fun, restful summer for all!

Elementary Highlights
Elementary LIONS' Pact Chapel

My Lighthouse with Justin Stage View
My Lighthouse with Justin Abboud Audience
Our last elementary chapel was a special time to honor the efforts of teachers and students for our Lions' Pact Program. Mrs. Drevlow's first grade class opened our worship time with the song, "Lions."
Everyone joined the band with fourth grader Justin Abboud on the drums to add extra rhythm worship with chopsticks to the song, "Lighthouse." Please enjoy the worship videos above.

Mrs. Meyer, Mrs. Crowell, and other teachers gave certificates to selected students who have been intentional with incorporating the Lions' Pact qualities of Listen, Invite, Ownership, Notice, and Support into their classroom and playground life at MCS. A couple fifth graders shared what they have learned about growing in Lions' Pact qualities this year. Mrs. Meyer challenged us all to carry those qualities into our summer adventures!

New Law to Go Into Effect July 1, 2019
There have been recent changes to school entry immunization requirements that go into effect July 1, 2019. We are sharing these changes with you so that you may work with your child's healthcare provider to make sure your child is vaccinated (California Code of Regulations Title 17, Division 1, Chapter 4.) There has been the addition of a second Varicella vaccine requirement for entry into elementary school at Transitional Kindergarten (TK)/Kindergarten (K) and/or seventh grade, administered by a licensed California Healthcare Practitioner.

Grade                   Number of Doses Required of Each Immunization
TK/K-12 Admission 4 Polio 5 DTaP 3 Hep B 2 MMR 2 Varicella
7th-12th Grade 1 Tdap

7th Grade Advancement 2 Varicella 1 Tdap

California schools are required by law to check the immunization records for all new student admissions at TK/Kindergarten through 12th grade and all students advancing to 7th grade before entry. Students meeting all immunization requirements will be unconditionally admitted to school. Students may also be unconditionally admitted if they have a permanent medical exception in accordance with Section 6051. Your child may receive the necessary vaccines from his/her primary care practitioner or pharmacy. It is important to get your child vaccinated early so there will be no issue with school entry. Please make sure you bring your child's vaccine record to the school so it may be on file. Should you have questions, please contact the MCS Health office or your child's health care provider.

8th Grade Blessing
Monday, June 10th
9:30-11:30AM
at Mariners Christian School
One of the sacred traditions of graduation week is the 8th Grade Blessing which will be held on Monday, June 10th, 9:30-11:30 a.m.  at Mariners Christian School.

The 8th Grade Blessing is an opportunity for parents of graduates to speak words of affirmation over their child - acknowledging their character and excellence, encouraging them to follow God's plan during their upcoming high school years, and speaking God's promises into their future.  We ask that only parents be present and that siblings and other family members celebrate at another time. If you are unable to attend, perhaps a grandparent, aunt/uncle, or family friend who has been an important part of your child's life would be willing to step in. If both you and your representative cannot attend, your child's homeroom teacher would be honored to read your written blessing to your child on your behalf. Simply write your words down and email them to Mrs. Walker at [email protected]

The homeroom classes meet in separate rooms (click for location) with parents and students sitting in two circles. This is your time to bless your child in the presence of their peers.  It is an opportunity to give them the gift of affirmation expressing a recognition and appreciation for who they are, separate from what they do. It is also an opportunity to communicate how proud you are of who they are becoming.  You may want to read a meaningful scripture verse or other selection, pray for them, express your desires for their high school years, simply tell them how much you love them, and/or wish them Godspeed as they move on to the next chapter in their life.  We do ask that you limit your time for sharing to 2-3 minutes.

This is a wonderful way to end the school year and to send our graduates into the future God has prepared for them. Please RSVP to Robin Walker at [email protected] or 714.437.1700, extension 157, by May 22nd that you (or someone else) will be attending and giving a blessing to your graduate. Thank you
