MCS
Heroes of the Week

Krissie Matus

Congratulations to this week's Heroes Eric and Krissie. We hope you enjoy your up-close parking spot.

Eric Choi, IT Network Systems
MCS has a tremendous gift in Eric Choi. We don't see 70% of the work he does but we feel its effects because our offices,  phones, computers and classrooms run smoothly. Our student's iPads work effectively and our internet is rarely slow or down. If it does go down, he responds quickly so that we never feel the true impact of being without internet or technology. On top of that, all of the Bright Future work that has been accomplished because of his knowledge and hard work is setting MCS up to continue to be a cutting edge, technology advanced K-8th School. But what is most impressive about Eric is what an amazing Godly father and role model he is to our students and his own two little girls! We are thankful for Eric and he is truly deserving of hero status.

Krissie Matus, Health Services
We are excited to announce the elementary super hero for next week.... Krissie Matus... our MCS health office expert and caretaker to all!  She is always ready to handle anything that comes her way and gives just the right amount of TLC and care to both staff and students.  She remains calm during emergencies and works diligently with outside professionals when called to do so.  She keeps us all informed when there are "scary germs" happening in the classrooms or "itchy bugs" that make us want to scratch our heads.  Krissie, thank you for all you do, thank you for taking care of the staff and students!  You know exactly how to help our littles when they cry and our big students when they need you! We appreciate all you do for MCS!  This is a first.... Enjoy your sweet nomination from your very own daughter! Hero Highlight nomination from Izzie Matus.... "You are asome Neuse!" Izzie Matus

Elementary Grandparents & Special Friends Day

Last Friday our campus was alive with the joyful sounds of our students hosting their grandparents and special friends. Our guests enjoyed a wonderful program by our elementary students in the Argyros Center for Worship and Performing Arts, and then toured the classrooms and school together. It is a day we truly look forward to each year! Enjoy the photo gallery below.
Thank You for Visiting the Difference Maker EXPO!
Thank you to all of our MCS families who came to the Difference Maker EXPO at Open House.

Each of our Difference MAKER bakers sold out of their treats! Thank you for supporting their SWEET CAUSES by purchasing their SWEET TREATS!

These kiddos TOGETHER raised more than $1750 that is being given away to incredible organizations to impact pediatric cancer, kids who have lost a loved one, pet shelters, the need for medicine and clean water in developing countries, orphans and children in foster care.

Thank You MCS for Your Book Donations!
We delivered the Little Free Library and books collected in our book drive that our Difference Maker Project New Chapter students, Hagen Ebright & Hudson Dexter, have organized. Hagen & Hudson shared why they wanted to give Little Free Libraries away, how it works (take a book/leave a book), and why they love to read. Shalimar students and MCS students got to add their handprints to the Little Free Library in lots of different colors, and then each of the Shalimar students got to pick a book of their own to take home to read. It was such a special day for all of us and we want to say THANK YOU to every MCS family who donated a book to the Book Drive!

New Law to Go Into Effect July 1, 2019
There have been recent changes to school entry immunization requirements that go into effect July 1, 2019. We are sharing these changes with you so that you may work with your child's healthcare provider to make sure your child is vaccinated (California Code of Regulations Title 17, Division 1, Chapter 4.) There has been the addition of a second Varicella vaccine requirement for entry into elementary school at Transitional Kindergarten (TK)/Kindergarten (K) and/or seventh grade, administered by a licensed California Healthcare Practitioner.

Grade                   Number of Doses Required of Each Immunization
TK/K-12 Admission 4 Polio 5 DTaP 3 Hep B 2 MMR 2 Varicella
7th-12th Grade 1 Tdap

7th Grade Advancement 2 Varicella 1 Tdap

California schools are required by law to check the immunization records for all new student admissions at TK/Kindergarten through 12th grade and all students advancing to 7th grade before entry. Students meeting all immunization requirements will be unconditionally admitted to school. Students may also be unconditionally admitted if they have a permanent medical exception in accordance with Section 6051. Your child may receive the necessary vaccines from his/her primary care practitioner or pharmacy. It is important to get your child vaccinated early so there will be no issue with school entry. Please make sure you bring your child's vaccine record to the school so it may be on file. Should you have questions, please contact the MCS Health office or your child's health care provider.

Shalimar Visit Includes Planting Project New Chapter - Little Free Library (Thank You MCS for BOOKS)
Last Friday we were blessed to take a group of students to The Shalimar Learning Center to connect with the students and staff at Shalimar in really fun ways. First, the MCS students got to serve the Shalimar staff by covering books for them. Then, we kicked off the Fun Friday program at Shalimar by bringing "Things We Love at MCS":

1) We love AFFIRMATION! - our students shared about how homerooms spend time doing birthday affirmations and that we write affirmations for teachers on their birthdays. The Shalimar students got to make an "affirmation card" for a teacher or for their mothers for Mother's Day.

2) We love CAPTURE THE FLAG! - our students got to play Capture the Flag with the Shalimar kiddos and it was high energy fun!

3) We love READING! - We delivered the Little Free Library and books collected in our book drive that our Difference Maker Project New Chapter students, Hagen Ebright & Hudson Dexter, have organized. Alumni Mom Shares Her Story w/7th Gr English Students

7th grade English students are currently reading Farewell to Manzanar, a book by Jeanne Wakatsuki-Houston. The book is about Japanese internment camps during World War II. MCS Alumni Mom Mrs. Graves came and shared her own personal stories about both of her parents (and other family members) being sent to internment camps during this period. Mrs. Graves helped students make more meaning about what they are reading and learning about this history. She even took the time to make each student a paper origami crane and offered them a special piece of rice candy.
