MCSAP Coalition Updates, Events & News

Join MCSAP for our coalition meeting on March 18 from 12-2 pm, when we will hear from presenters from Urban Underground, Sky Connections, and 16th Street Community Health Centers. We will also be give updates on our by-laws changes and discuss presentations as workgroups. MCSAP Is Taking On Light & Unite Red Week!

MCSAP is taking the lead on Light & Unite Red Week March 22-29.

Light & Unite Red is a community-wide prevention initiative. Each year, nearly 50 community organizations, health departments, high schools, libraries, and government entities work together to shine a spotlight on the dangers of substance use and unite our community to engage in prevention, encourage treatment, and support recovery throughout the year. Light & Unite Red was started by the Milwaukee County Behavioral Health Division (BHD) and now is led by Milwaukee County Substance Abuse Prevention Coalition.

We are also encouraging you and your colleagues to wear red on March 24th in support of Light & Unite Red Week.

The House of Kings and Priests is hosting a Zoom Hidden In Plain Sight for Parents/Guardians on March 27th at 11 am. Participants will have the opportunity to go through a mock bedroom to learn where their youth could hide alcohol and drugs as well as ask a panel questions about what they saw in the room. The House of Kings and Priests will also host a Grab'n Go of PPE supplies and information on prevention of alcohol and drugs for the community. KEEP A LOOK OUT FOR THE REGISTRATION LINK!

Vivent Health is offering a free online Narcan training for individuals who work or reside in Milwaukee County. This course provides information about the opioid epidemic and how to recognize and respond to an opioid overdose. It includes practical, step-by-step guidance for performing rescue breathing and administering Narcan (naloxone). All participants will receive a supply of Narcan Nasal Spray and a certificate of training. Sign up here.

The 27th Street West Drug Free Coalition is hosting a Teen Professional Skills Summit on March 24 and March 25 for high school-aged youth so they can explore more meaningful and productive ways to spend their summer and be prepared for the professional world through career development workshops. The Summit will offer workshops as well as on-the-spot interviews.

MCSAP will host a virtual escape room experience for adults and a mocktail segment hosted by Erik Kennedy and Sarah Hofman, who have been featured on OnMilwaukee.com, on March 26th at 6 pm. MCSAP Member Events & Updates

On Wednesdays from March 17 to April 14 join Your Choice to Live Inc.'s webinar series on the impact of marijuana. This series explores the impact of marijuana from a variety of lenses, including social justice, workforce, medical, political, public health, and mental health. Webinars run from 11:30 am to 1 pm.

Sixteenth Street Community Health Centers just opened their new National Avenue clinic. They will be providing a number of behavioral and mental health services.
