Rosie Update ❤

We are so floored by how beautifully Rosie has responded to her treatment so far (You can see her original post here). Medicated baths, an anti-fungal and antibiotics regimen, a special feeding protocol to help her gain weight safely, and all of the love and affection she needs to thrive! Rosie has been in a foster home for a few weeks and has already made such strides - although she still has a way to go to be back to a healthy puppy ready for adoption, we couldn't be happier by her progress! Rosie's foster home reports that she loves her sweaters (pink is her favorite color!), her doggy siblings, cuddling up in piles of pillows and is always by their side ❤

Kitty Highlight: Mufasa

Mufasa was found abandoned outside and locked in a crate 😢 Thankfully he was taken into our care!

Mufasa wasn’t acclimating well to shelter life, it can be REALLY stressful for some kitties - but luckily we found him a great foster home where we now know what a sweet and cuddly boy he is!

Mufasa is around 7 & 1/2 years old and is a total cuddle buddy who’s always looking for a warm lap, and the occasional sun spot. Mufasa would prefer to be the only kitty, and we are hoping he finds his forever home soon ❤

Join us for our Home for the Holidays event this weekend!

Pet Therapy Program

We love the recent article highlighting our amazing Pet Therapy Program! Our volunteers and their certified therapy animals visit schools, nursing homes, rehab centers, libraries and more to spread a little love and get lots of love ❤  We help people and their pets earn their certification through our program through training and testing!

Oh, deer!

This past week, a young deer fell 20-feet down into a large basement window well. Not just any window well, but a window well that had 20-foot glass panels! We arrived on the scene and made the determination that for the safety of all involved, the best course of action would be to tranquilize him. With the assistance of Long Branch Fire Department, we were able to hoist him out of the window well and he was transported to a wildlife rehab partner. He will be held for the next 30 days until the drugs used leave his system, and then be released ❤

Sit, Stay, Play!

Does your new pup need a little guidance?

We’re happy to be offering a new training program to help your puppy be the best they can be! You’ll work with our shelter trainers and also enjoy puppy socialization playtime - another important part of puppyhood!

Polar Plunge Success!

The Monmouth County SPCA held its second annual Doggy Paddle Polar Plunge on Saturday, November 26th, 2022 at D’Jais in Belmar.. This year’s event was extremely successful, raising over $100,000 with hundreds of participants! Fifty-degree temperatures, sunshine and wagging tails!

The day was filled with food, music, costume contests, and a 50/50 raffle. The plunge kicked off with a Pre-Plunge Party featuring breakfast, music and a kiddy pool filled for dogs to take a “plunge” of their own to choose treats + toys! This year’s plunge marks the first time a special award was presented for the youngest animal advocate participant. Finn Richard (8), who raised more than $700 as a “Puppy Plunger”, received the Nancy Voccola Warm Heart Award; celebrating and encouraging youth activism for humane welfare.

The event’s success would not have been possible if not for the generous support of sponsors such as the Cooper Voccola Family Foundation, Paul & Fran Turner and E Street Bagels, as well as the hundreds of supporters who donated, fundraised and showed up to cheer us on!

We're Here to Help!

Like shelters all over the country, we are experiencing high-intake and lower-than-average adoptions. We need our community more than ever to help us find homes for our resident dogs, some who have been waiting months!

As part of our adoption and foster process, we'll provide virtual or in-person behavioral support to help our dogs to acclimate to their new homes.
