MCWD Conducts Extensive Water Quality Testing

At Marina Coast Water District your water undergoes extensive water quality testing to ensure you receive high quality water. Before the water reaches your tap, it's sampled and tested every step of the way.

Testing begins with the groundwater itself, which is checked at the source wells, and again after disinfection. In total, up to 2,000 or more tests are performed per year to ensure all water meets high quality standards.

Public Agencies Seek Reversal

of Approved Desal Project

The Coastal Commission approved the Cal-Am desalination project that failed to follow the Commission’s own requirements to obtain a fair, legal, and transparent decision for the people of the Peninsula.

For example, the Coastal Commission staff acknowledged it had not undertaken any independent analysis of Cal-Am’s current water supply or demand requirements, but simply picked an average number without evaluation.

Importantly, there is adequate water without Cal-Am’s desal project. The total water supply available from the recycled water expansion — without a desalination plant — will allow “banking” of excess available water, and build up a significant drought reserve.

Why The Coastal Commission Decision Should Be Reversed

Marina Coast Water District is Prepared for Emergencies

During the recent flooding, your water and wastewater crews were available round-the-clock to ensure we could respond quickly to any flooding, outages or other emergencies.

We remain well prepared at all times. Our planning includes the installation of:

  • New backup generators at groundwater pumping stations
  • Large water pipeline shut off valves for added reliability
  • Automated, remote monitoring and control systems for 24/7 detection

Is Your Irrigation Controller Watering Your Yard During The Rain?

Is it time to upgrade your sprinkler irrigation system for a Smart one?

Some Smart sprinkler controllers connect to the internet and use real-time weather data to adjust the frequency of watering so you don't water your grass when it's raining or fail to water your yard on a dry, hot day.

Upgrading to a Smart sprinkler can save water and reduce your water bill.

If you do have an older irrigation system... check your irrigation controller after a power outage to ensure the watering schedule does not reset by default. Some older controllers don’t have batteries to backup scheduled programming. You may want to unplug older controllers for winter, so the default settings do not begin watering every zone, every day after an outage.
