Tips for Managing Nutrients When Fertilizer Prices are High

The optimum range for grain crops is considered to be between 30 and 50 ppm for Phosphorus and 100 to 150 for Potassium. To save on fertilizer input, it is necessary to pre-replace the nutrients that will be utilized if soils are in the optimum range. Read more on nutrients here.

ShoreRivers Wetland Restoration Project Constructed
ShoreRivers recently completed the construction of a large restoration project on Chesapeake College's Wye Mills campus that will significantly reduce nutrient and sediment pollution. The project converted nearly 29 acres of an agricultural field into two ponds, a series of wetland cells with habitat islands and planted infiltration berms. Read more about the project here.

Maryland Grain Producers Association partners with National Corn Growers Association
Maryland Grain Producers Association has partnered with the National Corn Growers Association to offer a single application for both scholarships! NCGA has three scholarship applications open for students in the following categories:
- Tech School/Community College Student
- Undergrad Students
- Graduate Students
The MGPA scholarship is open to students enrolled in two-year vocational schools or four-year universities seeking agricultural-related degrees. Applicants families must be involved in grain production and members of MGPA. For the 2022 to 2023 school year, MGPA will be offering up to 5 scholarships in the amount of $3,000 each.
Scholarship applications are due by January 31st and can be found here.

Mid Atlantic Certified Crop Advisers Scholarship
The Mid Atlantic Certified Crop Advisers will award up to two scholarships in the amount of $1,000 for students enrolled in an agronomy or related field. Applications are due Friday, February 18th, and can be found online here.
