Mysterious Seeds Seeds from China are showing up all across the country. If you receive the seeds, do not plant them and report the delivery to the Maryland Department of Agriculture at 410-841-5960. Be sure not to plant the seeds.

Crop Progress Report Across Maryland, corn is 60% silking and has a crop condition of: 1% Very Poor 8% Poor 22% Fair 56% Good 13% Excellent Read the latest progress report by USDA here. The U.S. Wheat Associates shared their weekly harvest report. As harvest heads north, the protein has increased to 11.9%. The Soft Red Winter wheat is fully harvested. Read the full report and see the U.S. wheat progress here. COVID-19 Update The U.S. House and Senate have been discussing the next coronavirus relief. This will be through the Health, Economic Assistance, Liability Protection and School (HEALS) Act. USDA has launched the third round of their Farmers to Families Food Box Program. At this time, they have distributed 50 million food boxes. Watch a video on the program to see how it benefits those in need and farmers here.

Market and Trade Update The U.S. Grains Council officially announced that old crop corn sales are a thing of the past, with a total of 971 thousands of metric tons (TMT) to Mexico and Japan as the top buyers. There was new crop sales of 638 TMT with China purchasing 1.937 MMT. Sorghum saw 173 TMT to China. Southeast Asia is currently the destination for one-third of all U.S. DDGS exports. Late-Season Nitrogen in Corn Taking yields to the next level can be done with a six-step nutrient management program. Drew Haines, from Middletown, spoon feeds his corn from planting to brown silk. Learn more about applying nitrogen during corn's growth stages here.

DPI - Tracking Ammonia The Delmarva Poultry Industry, the Keith Campbell Foundation and MDE, have new ambient air monitoring stations established on Maryland's Eastern Shore and in Baltimore City to measure ammonia and other particulate matter. The first round of data, indicates that airborne substances of concern are higher near poultry houses, but far below the recommended limits. Read more about the system here. Virtual Board/Meetings The U.S. Wheat Associates held their annual meeting virtually on July 17th. A new officer team was elected and can be found here. The U.S. Grains Council held their 60th Annual Board of Delegations Meeting virtually earlier this week. An Illinois farmer was elected as chairman. Learn more about the officers selected here. Read more about the virtual event here. The National Corn Growers held a virtual fly-in July 22nd and 23rd. There were 109 virtual meetings during the two-day event, allowing growers to provide members of Congress and their staff, first-hand stories on how policies from Washington impact their farm. QA Barn Fire At 2:30 A.M. a neighbor discovered flames inside a 50 by 150 barn in Centreville last week. It is estimated, $1 million in damage to all equipment inside the destroyed structure, no one was injured. Read more here.

EnList Duo On July 22nd, the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals allowed continued registration of EnList Duo herbicide developed by Dow AgroScience. The court sent on petition back to the EPA to further consider the impact of the herbicide on monarch butterflies. Read more here.
