While the Presidential election results are still up in the air, we do have some answers on Congressional races. In Maryland, incumbents Andy Harris (MD-1) and Kweisi Mfume (MD-7) maintained their seats in Congress. The Senate currently sits at 48 Democrats and 48 Republicans with several races outstanding and a run-off expected in January for one seat in GA. Senator Pat Roberts, Chair of the Agriculture Committee, is retiring leaving that leadership position open. Additionally, Sen. Joni Ernst, R-Iowa, narrowly held onto her seat in her run against Democrat Theresa Greenfield.

Top Five US 2020/2021 Corn Market

This past week 2.61 MMT of corn was sold. Mexico purchased 1.06 MMT, unknown purchased 781.6 TMT, China 213.3 TMT, South Korea 132.7 TMT, and Colombia with 127.7 TMT.

Sorghum sales tallied 365 TMT to China and unknown destinations.

The MACCA Board administers the CCA program for Delaware, Maryland, New Jersey Virginia, and West Virginia. The MACCA program is administered by the regional board in association with the American Society of Agronomy, which handles similar program for specialties in agronomy, crop consulting, weed science, and other agricultural disciplines.

This year's crop meetings will be held online this winter. The meetings are free and open to all interested in agronomy, forage, vegetables, and fruit. There will be pesticide applicator, nutrient management, and certified crop adviser credits available. Learn more here!

The America's Conservation Enhancement Act was signed into law. The bill contains programs that will help protect and restore the Bay and its rivers and streams. Learn more here.

The Department of Agriculture's Manure Transport Program is offering "FastTrack" grants that pay up to $22.50 per ton to truck poultry manure to qualifying farmers and brokers. More information can be found here.

MDA has adopted new regulations that will expand the state's industrial hemp program. The new regulations bring the state's program into compliance with provisions of the 2018 US Farm Bill and will establish industrial hemp as an agricultural commodity. Read more here.

DNR reported that the 2020 dead zone is the second smallest observed in the Maryland portion of the Chesapeake Bay since monitoring began in 1985. "Due to reduced spring rainfall and less nutrient-rich runoff flowing into the Bay from the watershed." Read the full story here.
