Robot in Grain Bins?

A robot has been designed with augers to help move grain by a remote control. The robot could be in the market in five years with a cost of $4,000. This summer, the robot is working trails on farms. Read more here.
2021-2022 Maryland Cover Crop Program

Sign-up will begin July 1st and run until the 16th for MDA's cover crop program. Applications will be mailed and can be completed online. The base plant rate is $45 an acre. There is an early plant and extended season incentive as well as a multi-species incentive. More information can be found online here.
Bayer Announces New Herbicide

Bayer Crop Science has announced a new herbicide coming mid-decade to help farmers battle problem weeds such as waterhemp and palmer amaranth. Diflufenican will be introduced under the brand name Convintro as it is pending approval by the EPA. Learn more here.
Soil Health Partnership

The National Corn Growers has announced that it is closing the doors to the Soil Health Partnership due to current program costs. The organization has accomplished its original mission after being established in 2014. Read more here.
Herbicide Options for Controlling a Failed Corn Crop

Research has been conducted and has demonstrated that Select was the most effective for corn 2 to 3 inches tall. For taller corn (4 to 6 inches tall), Gramoxone in combination with a photosystem II-inhibiting herbicide was the most effective. Liberty is a third option, but it will not control LibertyLink hybrids. Check out the full article for more suggestions here.
Protein Discovered that Naturally Enhances Resistance to Head Scab

To stop the spread of FHB, plant breeders are working to develop cultivars with improved resistance to FHB. A team of plant pathologists primarily based at Rutgers University recently generated wheat overexpressing two non-specific lipid transfer proteins and found that this enhanced protection against the fungus and led to a reduction of one of the major mycotoxins.
