FHB Risk

Wheat on the Eastern Shore and Southern part of the state is flowering. FHS risk is increasing for highly susceptible varieties. Growers are advised to spray head scab fungicides. If planted a resistant variety, risk is predicted low currently. In northern counties, wheat is booting and still roughly 1 to 2 weeks away from flowering. Read the full report here.


CME Resetting Daily Price Limits for Grain

The Chicago Mercantile Exchange Inc. will resent price limits for grain, oilseed, and lumber futures. The new daily limit includes corn at 50 centers (was 35), soybeans at 115 cents (was 90), and wheat at 80 cents (was 85). The new future price limits are effective on trade date May 2, 2022. Biden Proposes to Boost U.S. Farm Subsidies during War in Ukraine

As part of a $33 billion funding request related to the war in Ukraine, the Biden administration has asked Congress to approve $500 million. in subsidies for U.S. farmers to encourage more domestic production of wheat, soybeans, rice, and other commodities. The goal is to produce more of a certain commodity that is experiencing a global shortage. Read the full story here.


EPA Issuing Emergency Fuel Waiver for E15

The EPA issued an emergency fuel waiver to allow E15 sales during the summer driving season. The announcement lays out actions to increase the use of biofuels in order to reduce reliance on fossil fuels, accelerate the clean energy transition, build real U.S. energy independence, support American agriculture and manufacturing, and saves Americans money at the pump. MFB Facilitates Black Vulture Control Permits


MFB in partnership with the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service announced that producer permits for the control of black vulture depredation are now available, and can be obtained through the Farm Bureau. It is against federal law to bill a black vulture without a federally issued permit. Read more here.

NCGA Leadership Academy

Wheat Industry Applauds USDA Food Aid Support


USDA and the U.S. Agency for International Development are providing $670 million in food assistance to countries in need. The funding will be spent on purchasing domestic wheat and other commodities as part of a food aid package to help feed people in countries experiencing food insecurity. Read more here.

Department Releases Pesticide Use Survey


MDA has released the results of a statewide pesticide use survey conducted by USDA NASS. In total, 5.1 million pounds of pesticides were used in 2020, which has decreased by 58% since the last survey in 2014. Read more online here.

Nationwide enter Partnership to boost Agribusiness Fleet Safety


Nationwide has announced a new partnership with fleet management platform Razor Tracking to offer advanced telematics and fleet management services at a discount for Nationwide's agribusiness customers. The program offers real-time vehicle telematic devices, dash cameras, and subscription costs. Read more here.

EPA Announces $40 M to help restore the Chesapeake Bay


The money from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law will also be used to promote environmental justice and counter climate change. It is part of $238 million targeted for the Chesapeake Bay region over five years under the infrastructure law. The NFWF Chesapeake Bay Stewardship Fund will administer $25 million. How to be Paid for Reducing Nitrogen Use


Nutrien Ag Solutions has a new way of thinking about carbon programs. Their 2022 Sustainable Nitrogen Outcomes program aims to pay farmers for reducing their nitrogen use. The program is open to corn, cotton, and wheat farmers in select counties with a deadline of May 31, 2022. Learn more online here.
