Dear Friends and Neighbors,
think we can safely say that the Nor’easters have come and gone, right? I, for one certainly hope so…. Over thepast year, our staff has covered hundreds of miles by car and ferry in all kinds of weather to care for patients in their homes. MDNA staff served patients in Mout Desert, Bar Harbor, Southwest Harbor, Tremont, Swan’s Island,Great Cranberry, and Islesford! With the expansion of our service area and Medicare accreditation, our clinicians provide an array of services that include; skilled nursing and physical therapy visits to Medicare beneficiaries, Healthy At Home visits to those that choose to have an RN or LPN check in or fill their medication box, and Personal Care visits to assist those with personal care and light homemaking needs. MDNA is also providing home-based care services
(personal support services) through Elder Independence of Maine/Mainecare and nursing visits to members of “At Home MDI”. We have diversified our services and continue to find ways to help our community remain “Healthy at Home.” MDNA nursing staff conducts “free” blood pressure clinics in conjunction with the MDI Housing Authority. These clinics occur monthly at Ridge Apartments in Southwest Harbor and Maple Lane Apartments in Northeast Harbor. We also assisted MDI Hospital by providing flu vaccine clinics to residents of Swan’s Island and Mt. Desert.
There is so much more to do to keep ourselves and our loved ones out of the hospital and “healthy at home”. According to
Islesford resident and retired RN, Cara Spurling—95 years young—the “5 Tips to Staying Healthy At Home” are:
1. Try to exercise every day
2. Take your prescriptions and brush your teeth!
3. Eat a healthy diet
4. Socialize with neighbors and friends
5. Accept help
I couldn’t have said it better myself!
