Maryland Department of Aging Announces FY26 Aging-in-Place Competitive Grant Opportunity

The Maryland Department of Aging (MDOA) is excited to announce a competitive funding opportunity for aging-in-place grant awards that support older adults in maintaining their health, financial stability, social connections, and purpose within their homes and communities.

This funding opportunity aligns with Longevity Ready Maryland (LRM), our state's multisector plan for aging to prepare for the opportunities and challenges of a growing older population. By 2030, nearly one in four Marylanders will be 60 or older. Most older adults prefer to remain in their homes as they age, surrounded by familiar spaces, neighbors, and community connections.

Aging-in-place grant awardees will offer programs that enable older Marylanders to live safely, independently, and comfortably within their chosen communities, regardless of age, income, or ability level.

MDOA welcomes applications from nonprofit organizations and Area Agencies on Aging (AAAs) dedicated to expanding or creating innovative aging-in-place programs that align with one or more of the following LRM strategies:

  • Increasing awareness and adoption of neighbor-helping-neighbor Village models.
  • Recruiting older volunteers and multigenerational teams to participate in coordinated service opportunities.
  • Growing the number of volunteers across all age groups who support older Marylanders.
  • Expanding aging-in-place options through wraparound services like health care, transportation, and social services, in collaboration with AAAs, Centers for Independent Living, Villages, and other community-based aging providers.
  • Enhancing access to home repair and modification programs that ensure safe and accessible living environments.
  • Leveraging technology and community-based resources to improve transportation options for older adults, especially in rural areas.
  • Creating opportunities to connect Marylanders across generations through technology, programs, and shared community spaces.
  • Promoting initiatives that foster intergenerational relationships to combat age-related bias.
