On March 25, Maryland Secretary of Transportation Pete Rahn and Gregory Slater, Administrator, State Highway Administration, briefed the County Council on Governor Hogan's 495 270 Managed Lane Study. This is a plan to widen the Beltway and Interstate 270 and add toll lanes to them both. Watch the briefing here.
In the briefing, and consistently in meetings with MDOT, I have expressed concern with this plan.
Expansion of the Beltway and I-270 to add toll lanes would directly impact District 3 and Prince George's County residents. The Prince George's County Planning Department is studying the proposal to better understand the potential impact on County homeowners, businesses, natural resources, and more. Their analysis includes a map of the existing interstate right of way. Click here to view the Planning Department study including the existing right of way.
Earlier this week, I spoke at a press conference in support of
HB-1091 -- Public Private Partnerships - Reforms
urging the Senate Budget and Taxation Committee to pass this critical legislation which would place additional safeguards on massive Public Private Partnerships such as this one.
. This bill has passed the House of Delegates but must be passed by the Senate before
I urge you to learn more about this proposal, to attend one of the upcoming public meetings, and to share your comments with MDOT.

Thank you for engaging in this important discussion. Thank you for all you do for our community.
Please plan to join me at my 5th Annual Town Hall and Resource Fair on Wednesday, April 11, at 6:30 p.m. at William Wirt Middle School. I'm excited that County Executive Angela Alsobrooks, State's Attorney Aisha Braveboy, and At Large Council Members Mel Franklin and Calvin Hawkins will join me that evening.
As always, feel free to reach out to a member of my District 3 team or me if we can help you in any way. #onlytogether
