VETERANS DAY EVENT

YGNACIO VALLEY ROAD and CIVIC DR. OVERPASS, WALNUT CREEK

Everyone is welcome! Especially our veterans!

Across the nation, teams will hold visibility events on overpasses and bridges. Millions of people will see the messages! The purpose of this national event is to give Veterans a platform to express their outrage with the Trump administration's steamrolling of our Constitution and rules of law. Veterans, as well as all public servants who swear an oath to the Constitution, are tired of the administration thinking military service members make oaths to the president!

AND A MESSAGE FROM THE ORGANIZERS OF THIS WEEKLY EVENT:

We are concerned with safety and have a monitor at each corner wearing an orange vest. They will help keep the crosswalks and sidewalks clear for pedestrians. If you have any questions or concerns, please let one of them or Gordon Lake, our main event organizer, know.

Our mission statement and some norms for our group: .

Mission:

We are meeting to collectively defend democracy and support and protect the institutions which are vital to the wellbeing of all of us, and which are now under attack. Our goals are to meet every week to express our values and ideas, to promote solidarity and mutual support within our protest community, and to encourage other like-minded citizens to join us.

Norms:

We are non-violent in word and deed. We will follow all laws and act in ways that ensure personal safety. We will not block crosswalks or walkways.

We will not respond to those in cars or on the street who express different views. We will contact monitors in orange vests if we have questions or concerns.

WEDNESDAYS, 5 - 6 PM

INTERSECTION OF CIVIC DR. and

YGNACIO VALLEY ROADS, WALNUT CREEK

WE THE PEOPLE WEDNESDAYS

Organized by Indivisible ReSisters Contra Costa!

Join us for a rousing honk and wave visibility action.

Bring your signs and raise your voice for democracy and to protect our rights!

This is a nonviolent event. Stay within your rights, don’t break laws, stay safe, stay peaceful, and avoid any risk you don’t feel comfortable with. Don’t obstruct traffic, impede pedestrians, or commit any acts of property damage.

If counter-protestors appear, do your best to ignore them. When people shout from cars, just remember that we are standing for their rights, too. They just don't know it.

This is a busy intersection and cars drive fast. Please stay on the sidewalk at least a few feet from cars. We can spread out down the block and take a stand on the pedestrian overpass. Safety is our top priority. If you have any concerns during this event, please find a peace ambassador in an orange vest and they will help.

There are several parking lots within walking distance or you can find street parking at Civic Park or on Civic Drive or Arroyo Way.

HANDS OFF PEOPLE POWER PROTESTS

CENTRAL CONTRA COSTA COUNTY INFO HERE

This is a nonviolent event. Each of us is responsible for our own conduct. Stay within your rights, don’t break laws, stay safe, stay peaceful, and avoid any risk you don’t feel comfortable with. Don’t obstruct traffic, protest inside any business, impede people from entering or exiting any property, or commit any acts of property damage. Ignore any counter protestors and stay focused on peacefully delivering our message. If you need help or see something troubling, tell a uniformed police officer or call 911. If you can safely do so, record troublesome behavior with your phone, as this is often a strong deterrent to bad behavior.

JOHN MECKLIN: A conversation with Kathryn Bigelow, director of ‘A House of Dynamite,’ and screenwriter Noah Oppenheim

"At one point in Kathryn Bigelow’s new film, A House of Dynamite, Captain Olivia Walker (played by Rebecca Ferguson) is overseeing the White House Situation Room as a single nuclear-armed missile streaks toward the American heartland. Amid tense efforts to intercept the missile, Walker finds a toy dinosaur belonging to her young son in her pocket. In that moment, the heartbreak and terror of the less-than-20-minute countdown to impact all but overwhelm Walker—and I suspect many who have watched the film in theaters. Suddenly, the stakes are clear: All the young children, all their parents, all the animals on the planet face extinction. Not as a vague possibility or a theoretical concept debated in policy white papers, not as something that might happen sometime, but as unavoidable reality that is actually happening. Right now."

JEFFREY D. SACHS and SYBIL FARES: Venezuelan Oil — American Gangster Politics

"The United States is dusting off its old regime-change playbook in Venezuela. Although the slogan has shifted from “restoring democracy” to “fighting narco-terrorists,” the objective remains the same, which is control of Venezuela’s oil.

The methods followed by the U.S. are familiar: sanctions that strangle the economy, threats of force and a $50 million bounty on Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro as if this were the Wild West."

PROF. GLENN DIESEN: Interviews George Beebe: US-Russia Agreement to End NATO Expansionism or Accept an Ugly Russian Victory

George Beebe is Director of Grand Strategy at the Quincy Institute, and the former CIA Director for Russia Analysis. Beebe argues that the window of opportunity for an agreement that ends NATO expansionism is closing, and the alternative will be an ugly Russian victory.

World BEYOND War has

a DIVESTMENT campaign!

About the Campaign

Grassroots-led war divestment campaigns are springing up all over the world, from students organizing to divest university endowments, to municipalities and states coming together to divest public pension funds. Divestment means organizing to remove public and private assets from weapons manufacturers, military contractors, and war profiteers.

Public pension and retirement funds especially are often invested, directly and indirectly, in weapons companies. Teachers and other public servants whose interests lie with promoting human needs have their retirement security tied up with maintaining or enlarging the war industry. Every dollar currently invested in weapons and war is a dollar that could be better spent on job creation, education, housing, healthcare, food security, and so much more.

War profiteering is largely normalized today. We’re working to stigmatize the war machine. World BEYOND War assists divestment campaigns led by our chapters, affiliates, other coalitions, and individuals around the world.
