We regret to inform you that the Maryland General Assembly has passed the "Reproductive Freedom" bill HB705/SB798 in both chambers. Next, the bills will go to Governor Moore for signature and final enactment.
Because the bill was passed by more than 3/5 vote of each chamber, the amendment will be included as a ballot question in the November 2024 general election. The Secretary of State, Susan Lee - the former NARAL Legislator of the Year, will determine the language of the ballot question.
We know many of you are probably distressed by this information, but we want to encourage you to not lose hope.
We have never allowed federal abortion mandates to silence us and we will not be silenced now. Our efforts continue to have an impact on the hearts and minds of our fellow citizens.
It goes without saying that we will have much work to do together over the next year and a half. To defeat an abortion amendment on the ballot will require massive efforts in strategic messaging throughout the state. We are already consulting with experts from National RTL and peer state affiliates and of course we are marshaling support from our coalition of pro-life organization allies. We have fought hard to build bridges that we know, God willing, will enable a pathway to victory.
Despite the odds, together we have had success in defeating many bad bills including Assisted Suicide which is unlikely to be enacted for the 6th time.
As always, we will keep you apprised as we move forward in our mission to protect women, families and the preborn. We thank each of you for your steadfast advocacy for life.
