Celebrating Israel!

This past Sunday, we joined the masses in celebrating Israel at the Israeli Day Parade! We danced, we sang, we even handed out recipe cards for a few Syrian specialties with YouTube links of demonstrations by Juniors Freddie Mosseri and Victor Orfali. Watch them here!

Dr. Elliott Landowne was quoted in an article about the parade in the Jerusalem Post! Check it out here.
The Seniors take LA
Our 12th graders traveled to Los Angeles this week for their Senior Trip, where they went to a ball game, toured a studio, went to Universal, while making the time to stop and pray and remember what they represent as MDYHS students out in the real world.

When they returned to Brooklyn Friday morning, they headed straight to graduation rehearsal where they received their yearbooks which they decided to dedicate to our beloved security guard Chris Amendolia. Well deserved!
Sparks/Gems and Roses Culmination

At today's culmination of the Sparks/Gems and Roses Program, in honor of Mrs. Rose Cohen, Rabbi Haber presented each boy with a set of sefarim and the girls with a tehilim book. He spoke to the kids about carrying the lessons and middot they learned with them throughout the summer.

Please enjoy this MDNN Special Presentation of some highlights from the Gems and Roses program:

Spanish Songwriter

Congratulations Sophomore  Ikey Dweck , who won
Mrs. Cymet's Poetry Creativity Contest, with the song he wrote based on his interpretations of the poems La Guitarra by Federico Garcia Lorca and Israel by Jorge Luis Borges.

ACE Presentations
On May 24th, Irwin Gindi, Vivian Gindi, Allison Harari, and Daniel Bildirici participated in the end of year Architecture, Engineering and Construction Presentation Competition held at Columbia University. Mr. Christopher Lodge from the prestigious architecture firm HOK in Manhattan mentored them throughout the school year with bimonthly sessions in his office. Their team, called "The Leeders," proposed an ecologically friendly building called "The Green Museum" in Bryant Park. Students considered not only about creating an environmentally friendly structure, but also zoning laws, building codes, curved sight lines, balconies and other fun features like a retractable movie screen when creating their plan.  The student's presentation was a culmination of an entire school year of hard work and determination and we are so proud of them!
NYSACAC Conference

This week, Ms. Lauren Kirsch attended the New York State Association for College Admissions Counseling (NYSACAC) Annual Conference and Coming Together Conference at SUNY Geneseo. She attended 10 different informational sessions related to postsecondary planning, networked with college and admissions counselors from various schools throughout New York, and collaborated with other professionals to best advocate for students and ensure student success.

Around The School
Mrs. Betti Missry's Biology classes have been studying the human body systems and dissected fetal pigs this week. A fetal pig dissection  is helpful for anatomy studies because the size of the organs make them easy to find and identify. It is also interesting to do because a lot of the internal anatomy is similar to humans.

Mrs. Rifki Ross's sophomore Navi class celebrate their last day!

Rabbi Wahrman took his annual bike ride raising money for families for Shabbat, with the help of students David Salameh and Marco Halabi.

Built On Trust performed at MDYHS's 1st Annual Spring Concert!
