NRC Report Investigating Targets for the U.S. Light Duty Vehicles' Fuel Efficiency and Greenhouse Emissions
Stefanopoulou and others from U-M ME contribute
The National Research Council (NRC) released a new report on Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) and greenhouse standards for U.S. cars on June 18th and ME Professor and Director of the University's Automotive Research Center (ARC) Anna Stefanopoulou as well as ME's Jason Martz, George Lavoie and Robert Middleton fed this report with an important analysis through their "Full Vehicle Simulation Study" commissioned by the committee.

Research Advancing Combustion Science
Wooldridge and her team make great strides in the study of fuel
ME Professor Margaret Wooldridge's novel approach to understanding combustion includes development of a powerful experimental platform to characterize fuel behavior, the Rapid Compression Facility.

Measuring Near-Field Radiative Heat Transfer - A Novel Nanoscale Platform
Meyhofer and Sangi Reddy lead research
In an article published in March 2015 in Nature Nanotechnology, a team of researchers from the ME department and collaborators from Spain, led by professors Edgar Meyhofer and Pramod Sangi Reddy, are the first to demonstrate that near field heat transfer across nanoscale gaps is enhanced at the sub-wavelength scale with the use of thin films.

Construction continues on the $50 million renovation of the GG Brown Memorial Laboratories with phase 3, the final phase, scheduled for completion in December of this year.

U-M ME Alum Paul Nuyen Honored with 2015 Alumni Merit Award

Mechanical Engineering alum Paul Nuyen has been selected to receive the 2015 U-M ME Alumni Merit Award. Nuyen (BSE ME '80) began his 35-year career with Boeing as an engineer in the fabrication division and has spent decades building and later leading the development of the company's 7-series jetliners (including the 747, 757, 767 and 777). This past June, Nuyen retired from his position as Vice President of Everett Operations for Boeing.
