Camp MECE

We have had an amazing first two weeks of camp! The children have truly enjoyed playing on the splash pad, running the obstacle course in the Gathering Place, learning about insects and so much more. Each week we teach the children a vocabulary word that we try to practice throughout the week, our words were persistent and dependable. In Bible time the children learned about the story of Zacchaeus Climbing the fig Tree, Noah's Ark and the story xxxxxxxx. During Art time the campers had so much fun painting their camp shirts with their own "Very Hungry Caterpillar". They also made a Brown bear, Brown bear collages using papers that look like an Eric Carle design. During science the children learned about circuit electricity by creating a circuit of students holding an energy stick. They also made a circuit first with a metal spoon and then a plastic spoon to which ones would conduct electricity. Finally they created static electricity by rubbing a balloon on their hair. Then they held the balloon over a tissue paper used for butterfly wings to watch them flutter. In nature they watched an educational video about clouds and made a cloud in a jar. We end each week doing fun with food, the children got to make pancakes - using the Eric Carle book - Pancake Pancake and enjoyed them with maple syrup or strawberry jam.

Everyone enjoyed our special activities during week one as they learned all about butterflies and caterpillars. During week 2 these are the amazing things we did. Monday was art day. We reviewed primary and secondary colors. We then learned that colors have opposites and identified opposite pairs on a color wheel. Artists use opposite colors when they want to make a color pop! We then created a collage for "One fish, Two fish, Red fish, Blue fish" by gluing fish on their opposite color background.Tuesday was science day. We learned about the Dr. Seuss book: Bartholemew and the Oobleck. We made oobleck by mixing cornstarch and water with neon green food coloring. Then we played with oobleck and used small plastic dinosaurs to see if they would float or sink.Wednesday was also an art day. We first heard a short story about Thing 1 and Thing 2. We created our own Things by painting hair on a black paper. We used two shades of blue paint which we applied with a plastic fork to create strands of hair.Thursday was Nature Day. We learned about how the Lorax Speaks for the Trees. We decorated flower pots to look like a Lorax and made a Truffala tree for a pot marker. Then we filled the pot with dirt and planted 5 marigold seeds. Last we watered our seeds.Friday was Fun with Food Day. We made Goldfish Bowls. We tinted whipped cream cheese with natural food color and spread it on thin vegan rice cakes. We completed our snack by adding goldfish crackers. Then we enjoyed eating our creations.

They also got to enjoy the wonderful ladies from Spanish River Library who shared stories by Dr. Seuss stories with us!

We LOVE our MECE alumni camp volunteers!

There is something especially meaningful about seeing our MECE Preschool alumni return to volunteer at summer camp. Watching these former students give back, lead, and serve with such kindness fills our hearts with pride. Once a part of our MECE family, always a part of our MECE family!

Here is what MECE parents and students say about why MECE is so special!

The purpose of the MECE Parent Association is to build a strong community among our pre-School parents; support the teachers and staff; and to raise funds to support the school. All parents of MECE students are members of the Parent Association. The MECE Parent Association plans numerous events and opportunities for parents to get involved and participate in the MECE Parent Association, thereby directly supporting the school and our children.

Hi MECE Families,

We hope everyone is enjoying the summer! We can't wait to see everyone back at MECE in the fall.

The Parent Association includes all MECE parents and plans fun events for our children and families. Some examples are our trunk or treat, auction, family fun day, fun run and so much more. These events make MECE so special and provide great memories for our families!

We have monthly meetings that are a fun and relaxed environment to plan events and meet other parents. If you have any interest in helping with events or if you want to join us for some morning coffee and say hello, feel free to come by! Everyone is part of the Parent Association and everyone is always welcome, kids as well! Look out for meeting dates in the newsletters.

We are looking for a PA secretary for this current year. Please reach out to meceparents@gmail.com if you are interested! All are welcome to this position, so please do not hesitate even if you are new to MECE or returning. It is a great way to meet faculty and families while enjoying moments occasionally seeing your child in the school environment.

We are also still looking for parent chairs to plan some of our events.
