February 2026 Newsletter

Dear Maine CHWs and Allies,

On behalf of the Advisory Board, we are proud to announce the official launch of the Maine Community Health Worker Certification, beginning in February 2026.

This milestone reflects years of collaboration, dedication, and commitment to strengthening the CHW profession across our state.

Certification is more than a certificate—it is a recognition of the vital role CHWs play in improving health outcomes, reducing disparities, and building trust within our communities. By establishing clear standards and pathways for professional growth, we are investing in the sustainability and impact of this essential workforce.

We invite you to join us in celebrating this achievement and supporting CHWs as they take this important step toward advancing their careers and enhancing the quality of care for Maine residents.

In this newsletter, you will find:

  • Details on how to register to sit for the certification assessment
  • Guidelines and documentation requirements for eligibility
  • Important dates and next steps to help you prepare

Thank you for your continued partnership and advocacy. Together, we are shaping a stronger, healthier future for all.

Self-Care Tip

Taking Care of Yourself: Tips for Caregivers

Caregivers do a lot for others. Because there is so much on their plate, many caregivers don’t spend time taking care of themselves. For example, they are less likely than others to get preventive health services, like annual checkups, and to practice regular self-care. As a result, they tend to have a higher risk of physical and mental health issues, sleep problems, and chronic conditions such as high blood pressure. They are even at an increased risk of premature death.

What is self-care? Self-care means taking the time to do things that help you live well and improve both your physical, health, and mental health. When it comes to your mental health, self-care can help you manage stress, lower your risk of illness, and increase your energy. Even small acts of self-care in your daily life can have a big impact.
