Happy New Year!

Family Engagement and Support

At MECK Pre-K, we believe in the importance of building resilience in young children, as it helps them navigate challenges and bounce back from setbacks. To nurture resilience, encourage your child to solve problems on their own to build confidence and critical thinking skills. Foster a growth mindset by praising effort rather than just success, teaching them that mistakes are opportunities to learn and grow. Model resilience by showing how you handle stress and setbacks, setting a powerful example. Build strong relationships by creating a supportive and loving environment, providing a secure base for your child. Teach emotional regulation by helping your child identify and express their emotions in healthy ways, and practice calming techniques together, like deep breathing or counting to ten. By nurturing resilience, we equip our children with the tools they need to thrive in any situation. Let’s work together to support our young learners in becoming strong, adaptable, and confident individuals.

Conflict Resolution

Conflict resolution can be very difficult even for adults. For children they have no idea how to navigate disagreements or problems. As parents, you can guide your children by modeling calm behavior and encouraging them to express their feelings. Role playing different scenarios at home can teach children conflict resolution skills in a safe environment. You can also model brainstorming a resolution with any small problem throughout the day to foster these skills in your child. For example, if you spill something you can think out loud and about how you might clean up the mess. Below are some cards with solutions on them that you can use with your children and help them to decide on what solution might work best for each situation.

Here is the solution kit that can be used at home:

Gratitude after the Holidays

After the holiday season is a great time to teach children about gratitude. While doing so, you can also work on writing skills, vocabulary, and identifying emotions. With help as needed, these thank you notes designed for young learners are great options to practice these skills.
