Remember the Date

Family Engagement and Support

The holiday season is a time of joy and celebration, but it can also bring stress for families. At MECK Pre-K, we understand the importance of maintaining a calm and happy environment for both children and parents. Here are some tips to help manage stress during this busy time:

Keep Routines Consistent: Try to maintain regular meal and bedtime schedules to provide stability for your child.

Plan Ahead: Create a simple schedule for holiday activities to avoid last-minute rushes.

Take Breaks: Allow time for relaxation and quiet moments amidst the festivities.

Involve Your Child: Let your child help with simple tasks to make them feel included and reduce your workload.

Stay Connected: Reach out to friends and family for support and share the joy of the season together.

Remember, the best gift you can give your child is a happy and stress-free holiday.

Wishing you all a wonderful and peaceful holiday season!

Social Emotional Development

School creates a routine for children, but what about a routine at home? Routines are important for everyone including infants and toddlers. Children strive when following a routine that is predictable yet flexible. Creating a routine for your child can help in many aspects including self-confidence, self-control and social skills. It does not mean changing your everyday activities to fit a routine but rather adding structure and predictability to the everyday activities. This can be as simple as using a timer for brushing teeth for the same amount of time each day.

Tips:

  • Be consistent with the routine
  • Use a schedule with pictures to show the routine
  • Involve your child in the process of creating a routine

Child Development

Preschool aged children are ready to do chores without constant supervision. They often love the opportunity to be independent, be “a helper”, and show their loved ones the fruits of their labor. The focus and adult praise should be related to their effort rather than the end result to build confidence and encourage continued participation.

Some chores appropriate to this age group include:

  • Helping to clear and set the table
  • Making their bed
  • Dusting
  • Carrying and putting away groceries
  • Sorting laundry into whites and colors
  • Watering plants using a small container
  • Pulling garden weeds
  • Sorting/putting away silverware

Challenging Behaviors

Do you struggle to understand why your child is having challenging behaviors? If so, check out this article from the National Center for Pyramid Model Innovations on how to understand your child’s challenging behaviors.
