Each year the MEDC and the Community Development Department coordinate a bus tour to showcase opportunities in Montgomery. This year we had a nice variety of properties to visit. We were able to tour occupied buildings, industrial, commercial and warehouse space. Drive by future development sites were also shown. We had representation from over thirteen different brokerage firms. This helps us showcase Montgomery to a larger audience.

A continental breakfast and lunch was provided for all participants. Maps and listing sheets were also provided.

The event was held at Bliss Creek in Sugar Grove this year. The lunch and steak dinner and all incidentals were covered by the many sponsors for the event. We had over 108 registered golfers along with a steady hand of volunteers and add ons for dinner. The raffle prizes are always a big deal with special sports related tickets along with a variety of gift cards from around the community. We feel it is extremely important to spread our wealth around the community and get our business leaders to know about the great businesses and services we have in town.

Old Dominion Freight Line filled the golf course with staff & clients.

Thank You
This was an exceptional year for us. We had two event sponsors and a variety of donors that helped us reach some great numbers this year. Montgomery and the MEDC is very lucky to have the ongoing support we do.
Whether it was a raffle prize, cash or simply just coming to the event, everybody makes a difference. Even Caterpillar came in and not only helped as an event sponsor, they also contributed golf balls to every golfer. This year I also had a great team of volunteers. Not only does Old Dominion Freight Lines help fill the golf course with their sales team and clients, they also furnished a great team of volunteers who helped make the event run smoothly. Rush Copley and the Montgomery Rotary along with trustees Steve Jungermann & Doug Marecek also helped make the event a great success. Be sure to read the Press release for all the sponsors and volunteers.

The Montgomery Economic Development Corporation and the Community Development Director attended the annual ICSC convention at Navy Pier in Chicago. This is always a great time to talk to end users or tenants to come to Montgomery, Illinois. This year they also added a series of educational sessions concerning restaurants and the changes in the economy.

Carl Buddig & Company wins Community Impact Award from the Trade & Industry Magazine.

Plaque presented to the Buddig family on behalf of their CiCi award.
|
The Department of Commerce and Economic opportunity worked with the MEDC office to submit the Buddig project for consideration to the Trade & Industry Development Magazine's annual Corporate Investment & Community Impact Award contest. There are only 15 companies chosen nationwide, so this is a huge honor for the Buddig project to win.The Village and the MEDC wanted to share that accomplishment with the Buddig Family and had a plaque made to let them how much they are appreciated. Village President, Matt Brolley and staff were able to present the plaque to the family during a Buddig employee appreciation event at the Montgomery plant in October. It is indeed a privilege to work with such a great company who continues to make us shine. Buddig has been a great addition to the community and continues to invest and create new jobs. Special thanks and congratulations to all of the organizations who helped us make the Buddig project a reality for Montgomery.

Fox Metro educates the region in a HUGE way.
Over the last few months, Fox Metro Water Reclamation District began a campaign to help educate the community about the continued effort and operations of their business. An Open House, Facility Tours,
Aurora Greenfest,
A South Plant Ribbon Cutting and a meet & greet with Felix the Fox were a few of the events that were recently presented. When I asked about the reasoning behind these events, Karen Clementi explained, " We have identified an unmet need for public education and local outreach. Many commercial and residential users do not understand that we treat the wastewater from laundry, sinks and toilets. Times have changed for the better in that we live in an age of transparency. Ratepayers want to know what they are paying for and why, rightfully so. Our billing department receives several calls daily to ask what their bill is for. Nationwide, there is also a shortage of wastewater infrastructure spending where old pipes are not being properly maintained or replaced. We want our community to understand that what we do is important to protect both public health and the environment." Karen Clementi also shared there will be additional initiatives they are working on so be sure to check their website often or give them a call. I found myself not only getting educated about this interesting subject, but also feeling very grateful we have such a great company putting in so much effort to protect us.

Oswego Library draws a huge crowd at the Literary Festival !
|
|
Over 50 authors and some illustrators filled the first and second floors of the Oswego Village Hall. The event brought in hundreds of residents and families.
|
|
Denise Hallman & Gloria Drake welcomed guests as they arrived.
|
The topics ranged from romance, survival, poetry, fiction, single parenting and an assortment of children's books.
|
|
For the last eight years the Oswego Library and the Cultural Arts committee pulled together this event for the community. It started out as a small way to share culture with the community as well as share the many talented Illinois authors and illustrators and their products. Each year the event grows in numbers. Be sure to check with the library on all their exciting events throughout the year.
