Worcester, Massachusetts - At its meeting earlier this week, Worcester Community Action Council's Board of Directors unanimously voted to name President and CEO of YMCA Central Massachusetts David Connell to the Board.
Connell has served as the Board Chair for the Alliance of Massachusetts YMCAs since 2022, as President and CEO of the YMCA Central Massachusetts since 2019, where he also served as the Regional Executive & Organizational Advancement from 2012 to 2019. Connell also served as Executive Director/CEO at the Montachusett Regional YMCA prior to merger in 2012. He holds a MA degree in Divinity from the University of Cambridge, a BS degree in Business Management from Lesley University and completed the Community Health Leadership Program at Morehouse School of Medicine in 2013.
"David brings with him extensive nonprofit management experience and leadership, significant financial acumen, and a deep understanding of community and social services," said WCAC CEO Marybeth Campbell. "His knowledge of the City of Worcester and entire Central MA region, particularly where the YMCA overlaps with WCAC regional service areas, will be beneficial to us. David is an excellent addition to our Board and we are thrilled to welcome him."
WCAC Board Chair Karen L. Walker said, "We are proud that David has chosen to serve on our Board. David brings a wealth of experience and expertise as a leader and executive both in the corporate and nonprofit spaces. Moreover, he is a dedicated citizen who humbly supports community-wide initiatives and events. Indeed Mr. Connell embodies our mission and shares our commitment to use our resources to help improve the quality of life for all."
"As the newly elected member of the Board of Directors for the Worcester Community Action Council, I am thrilled to join this talented group of professionals and committed volunteers. I am excited to bring my passion for partnerships and collaborations to the table, and I look forward to advocating for our most vulnerable populations. Together, we can make a significant impact and drive positive change in our community," Connell said.
WCAC’s Board of Directors is a tripartite board comprised equally of representatives of the public sector, private sector and community. Connell's appointment fills a vacant private seat.
