Worcester, Massachusetts - The Worcester Food Security Task Force and Worcester Community Action Council will host a debrief on the recent White House Conference on Hunger, Nutrition, and Health.
Friday, October 21, 2022
9-10 a.m.
WCAC, 18 Chestnut Street, Worcester
More than 50 years have passed since the United States convened the White House conference that helped elevate hunger as a national priority and sparked major improvements and expansions to the federal nutrition programs—food stamps (now SNAP), school meals, and WIC—paving the way to significant reductions in food insecurity for millions of individuals and families. But we still have a long way to go.
On October 21, 2022 at 9:00 am Food security experts and advocates will meet to debrief and share concrete actions to reduce food insecurity in our region. There will be welcome remarks from State Representative Mary Keefe, followed by panel discussion including:
- State Representative Hannah Kane,
- WCAC Executive Director Marybeth Campbell,
- Worcester County Food Bank Executive Director Jean McMurray
- Catholic Charities Emergency Director Maydee Morales.
The panel will be facilitated by the Worcester Food Taskforce, Attorney Gina Plata-Nino and Director of the Healthy Greater Worcester Coalition Casey Burns.
The Worcester Food Taskforce is a cohort of community partners and individuals that are passionate about eradicating hunger in a holistic manner. Their goal is to create a food-secure community with vibrant and inclusive food cultures that reflect the diversity of its residents.
